English Joanne Smith gives a speech during survey class. Under the supervision of ,lean McGrew, the English department began an extensive examination of its curric- ulum in order to improve the quality and continuity of its four year program. The honors courses were continued, giving upperclassmen an accelerated and more comprehen- sive study of American and English literature. Expansion was definitely noticeable in the drama and library departments: theater-in-the-round made its first appearance and Mr. Hayes initiated the new policy of open- ing the library two nights a week. The vitality of this year's English program can be at- tributed, in part, to the addition of eleven new teachers to the department.
