This was the first time since entering cross country competition that the Rockets did not win the championship. Dave Phillips, only returning senior, placed high for Rich, followed by Bob Shindle and Winston Swift. Okland, Coach Stillman The frosh-soph baseball team won nine of its fourteen contests and placed second in the conference after a 1-0 defeat by Evergreen Park. The team owed much of its success to the coaching of Mr. Ron Stillman: Rich Sammons and Iohn Crowley provided effective pitching for the squad while Ron Deluco was the leading hitter. Swartz Under the direction of coaches George Acker and Iim Fisher, the newly organized tennis team was quickly molded into shape. The Rockets compiled a seven won, five lost record against some of the toughest competition in the state, including defending state- champions, Hinsdale. G0ll The golf team, coached by Eugene Zuccarini, finished its regular season with a record of six victories and five defeats. In conference competition the Rockets were undefeated until the Conference meet when they lost to Carl Sandburg. Brian Mays was the spark-plug of the team and climaxed the season by shooting a four-over- par 76 to qualify for state competition.
