Although cuts, heads, bleeds and dummies poured from the publications room as the staff prepared the 1959 Lagoon, room 226 nevertheless attracted guests - as faculty members came in to pay for their yearbooks on the nickel a day installment plan and students wandered in to play with the turtles or identify pictures, all eager to be a part of the turmoil and excitement of student publications. lf-lllllll Hoping to gain fresh ideas for the '59 Lagoon, staff representatives Marion Levenson, Lucinda McGuire, Clarence Reynolds, and lack Henning and faculty advisor, Leonard Peart. attended the Illinois State High School Press Association conference at the University of Illinois where they discussed modern yearbook trends with experts in the field. Striving to portray Rich as a modern growing school, the staff decided to introduce each section with modern abstract art and to sketch the development in academic and extracurricular fields.
