Our teacher, Miss Ella Lee Boomer, was a kind and understanding person, who helped us to become adjusted to school life. At the beginning of our second year we had lost five members, but our enrollment had increased to twenty-seven by the entrance of two students from nearby towns. Miss Agnes Taylor, now Mrs. Woodrow Grant, was our teacher. Our third grade teacher was Mrs. Olive Askew, who taught us English for the first time. Our enrollment list had increased to thirty-two by the end of that school year. At the beginning of our fourth year we had gained five more new members, which brought the total to thirty seven Our teacher was Mrs. Lucy Parker, who taught us geography for the first time Mrs Alice White was our fifth grade teacher At the beginning of that year we had lost six members At the begirmmg of our sixth year in school we had lost four members and gained one Mrs Charlotte King was our teacher that year We were taught by two teachers in the seventh grade, Mrs. Warren Harrell and Mrs William Futrell At the beginning of this year we had gained two new members, Grace Rountree and Larry Ivey We also lost Betty Lynn Cooper. That year we took our first trip, Jamestown and Williamsburg, Virginia In the eighth grade Jean Weaver Marion Futrell and Dalton Futrell joined our class Our teacher, Mr Joe Furr, accompanied us on our trip to Raleigh, where we visited various places of interest Finally, we found ourselves in high school, a little confused but thrilled to have reached this stage of our education Our home room teacher was Mr. Joe Browning. Our enrollment for that year was twenty eigh We also lost one of our prominent members at the end of that school year Charles Boomer left us and entered Randolph Macon in Virginia lMr Roger Holloman was our home room teacher in the tenth grade. That year we lost 'Edie Gibbs Malcolm Best, Elizabeth Gibson, Martha Jean Jilcott, Shelba Odom, Grace Rountree and Jean Weaver In our lump year we gained two members, Clyde Burgess and Richard Brown, who left usinth h rade, and vwtlost Polly Bryant Under the ,excellent supervision of Miss MQbell yant, our homeioom teacher, we raised muneyewitn which to give the Jgnior Senior Ba t As this was the greatest taskithat we had in high school, we trie to make it a s ess I think we Succeeded Wonderfully. With s Margarent Dunning as our home room teacher, seventeen of us became seniors race Rountree who had I us in the tenth grade, returned this year. Under the su vision ogy Rogdp-Holloman we undertook the task of producing the 1959 edition the RO ANIAN There were a great number of activities carried on to raise money with which to take' ehr trip to New York As the history ur c ss comes to a close let us consider the words, Life is sweet ust because he fri has we have made We want to live on not because of ursel s, but becau Qf the people who care By looking back in the past, we can ok forwuggt man even greater tomorrow Historian Betty Lou Askew ' o .
