COMMANDING OFFICER CDR. Marvin F. Hanigan U.S.N. Commander Marvin F. Hanigan was commis- sioned as an Ensign, United States Navy, 6June l954, upon graduation from the University of Missouri where he was a regular NROTC stu- dent. His first duty was on board the USS ROBIN CMSC lOl 537 where he served as First Lieutenant and later as the Executive Officer. Subsequent sea tours were served on board the USS GOODRICH CDDR-8315 as Operations of- ficer, COMPHIBRON SIX Staff as Assistant Operations officer, USS LIDDLE CAPD-603 as Executive Officer, and USS DETECTOR lNlSO- 429D as Commanding Officer. He assumed com- mand of USS RICH on 25 November l970. CDR Hanigan has also served on the maior staffs of the Chief of Naval Operations, Commanderin Chief, U. S. Atlantic Fleet, and the U. S. Nlili- tary Assistance Command, Republic of Viet- nam. He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College. Commander Hanigan is married to the former Elaine Knight of Memphis, Tenn. They have two children, a son Scott, 12 years old and a'daUQh' ter Kristen, 4 years old. They make their home in Virginia Beach. CDR Hanigan's awards include the Bronze Star with Combat V Joint Services Commenda- tion Medal, VietNam Honor Medal lFirst Classlf Psychological Operations Medal lSecond ClaSSlf as well as the Navy Expeditionary Medal lCub6l? LCDR Jerry H. Black U.S.N. Lieutenant Commander Jerry H. BLACK received his commission as an Ensign, United States Navy on 6 June 1961 from the United States Naval Academy. He reported aboard USS HENLEY CDD 7621 and served aboard her as ASW Officer and later as Weap- ons Officer. While aboard HENLEY he made three MED Cruises and participated in the Cuban quarantine. ln September of 1964 Lieutenant Commander BLACK was assigned as Executive Officer, USS NIMBLE CMSO 4591 where he served until February 1966 having completed an additional MED cruise and been involved in the salvage operation which brought to the surface a nuclear weapon lost when two Air Forces bombers collided. In March 1966 he took command of USS ACCOKEEK CATA 1819 a position he held until December 1968. After being relieved of command of ACCOKEEK he attended the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he received a Master's Degree in Computer Systems Management in June 196 . From August of 1969 until April of 1970 he served as Weapons Officer aboard USS NORTHAMPTON KCC 17 and put her out of commission. Lieutenant Commander BLACK reported aboard RICH in July of 1970. He is married to the former Margaret Conley of Bakersville, North Carolina. They have two children, Sean 6 years and Anthony 4 years and reside in Nor- folk, Virginia. His awards include National Defense Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and Armed Forces Expeditionary EXECUTIVE OFFICER Medal. -. - i 'gf . K . 55.1. I-f Tv?
