RICH joined a new Search and Rescuc group, which formed at DaNang, South Vietnam, on July 30. The six ship group was dispersed to three stations along the North Vietnamese coast from which they controlled aircraft and conducted pilot rescue operations. Following this arduous period at sea, RICH visited Subic once again ffiept. 7-125 and Hong Kong fSept, I4-195. After 22 years of keeping the peace around the world, RICH unsheathed her sword for the first time at 1:35 ANI on September 24th, when she opened fire on Viet Cong moving down out of the mountains, adjacent to DaNang Harbor. For ten days RICH pounded muni- tion caches, camps and weapon emplacements.
