Using the editorially correct we, we of th Thresher propose the following plan: Concerning the fall delivery, we firmly believe that a Rice does not have a school of journalism and all student are required to take a full course of study, a full nin months must be given to the production of a first-rat yearbook. To counteract the proposed March deadline, w suggest a deadline coinciding with deadweek for all cop except graduation photographs and material. This mate ial could be sent to the publishers as soon as photograp were developed and page proofs drawn up. In addition, we propose that when individual photil graphs are taken in the various colleges next Week, senior be required to put their place of residence for next yeal on a special card. If their residence is unknown now, the may fill out the cards later or the Campanile will send annuals to their hometown residence to be forwarded them. If seniors are desirous of picking up their yearboo next year, they can plainly state on the proposed card. Production of a fall annual will undoubtedly bring the problem of finances, when books are to be closed, e We propose that Campanile and administrative officia contact representatives of other universities and colleg which produce a fall yearbook to find out how Rice m remedy this situation as other schools must surely do. paraphrasing Gertrude Stein, a yearbook is a yearbook, a YEAR book-and any Campanile which fails to conta graduation pictures, spring sports, senior follies, Rondel or spring formal photographs is falling far short. of f intended purpose as a YEAR book. Censorship is a dangerous Word, but censorship is t only word which we can use to denote the last major chan in Campanile policy. Under the new conditions, all co would first be presented to Dr. J. R. Sims, advisor to m before it is to be sent to the publisher. We of the Thres agree, but not wholeheartedly, that the Campanile sho have some form of advising But we cannot agree t one man, even with the proven capabilities of Dean Si can judge what is censorable and what is not. As we ha stated before, Rice does not have a school of journalis earn from those schools which do. Rice is c ily school in the Southwest Conference whi e a publications board and if material H1 we feel that a board consisting of the e .iness managers of the Campanile, Thresh gineer, in addition to the advisors for each tions and Dean Sims would be the most su able remedy. The student body would be represented by elected student officers and the ideas and aims of the ministration by faculty members. This group would deci on what is best for campus publications and their decisio would be reached only after discussion and debate. Through the Thresher plan we feel that both stude and faculty will be satisfied. As Ambrose Bruce once sa Compromise is an adjustment of conflicting interests gives each adversary the satisfaction of thinking he h got what he ought not to have, and is deprived of nothi except what was justly his due.
