president According to an old story there are two pillars at the tip ot the westerly coast ot Spain, set up by l-lercules, with a legend ot warning, ne plus ultra, nothing beyond, so far and no farther. The common man stopped there and turned back, but fortunately for us there were men uncommon .enough to sail west into the teeth of the wind. The rough ocean of thought has always been a fearsome place, and men have always tried to set its limits. The inquisitions ot the past and the modern inquisitions of the Fascist and the Marxist all have posted two pillars ot tear. One pillar says, This is the whole truth. The other says, Don't dare look beyond. But a man must seek his own truth. lt's his own truth that makes him tree. And so may all ot us, because ot the Rice Institute, take away the ne in that inscription to make it read plus ultra, more ahead, everything beyond. A W. V. HOUSTON President Lovett, Edgar Odell AB.
