I if As Rice Memorial High School seniors count their blessings, they will have to number among them the happy hours spent in the ideally located, spacious library with its magnificent view of Lake Champlain, the Adirondacks, and the Green Mountains. a panorama surpassed by few schools in the state or nation. The library furnishings in light maple are simple, practical and attractive. The seating capacity of eighty-five may be increawd to one hundred. Very popular are the ten easy chairs upholstered in green and beige to match the color scheme of the room. The book collection numbers five thousand one hundred fifty books, five hundred fifteen of which have been purchased at a cost of three thousand dollars since the opening of Rice Memorial High School on February 2, 1959. The circulation of books averages one hundred twenty-five books daily, and keeps the three librari- ans. Mrs. John Donoghue, Sister Rita of jesus, F.S.E,, and Sister Mary Annita, R.S.M., and their thirty student assistants well occupied. The library assistants are all members of the NATIONAL CATHOLIC LIBRARY ASSISTANTS ASSOCIATION. The entire library personnel wish to express their gratitude to the Rice Memorial School Board, to Reverend Raymond Adams, Reverend Wendell Searles, the faculty and the student body for the excellent assistance and cooperation they have received while endeavoring to service the library efficiently. For the first time in the history of Cathedral and Rice. an art course was introduced under the instruction of Mrs. Flore Zimmerman. Techniques in artistic and modern design, oil, pastels and sketching were available. An average of twenty-five students. divided into two scheduled classes, took advantage of this opportunity. This course was recognized as a scho- lastic' subject and a half credit was attributed to it. The students, under this course, participated in poster contests and in exhibitions of their work in oil painting in associa- tion with pupils of other schools. It is hoped that the study of art will lead to a richer appreciation of culture and beauty, thereby making better adults of its recipients. 1 MRS. FLORE ZIMMERMAN
