We hope that this dedication will convey in part our appreciation for the generosity and interest you have shown us in your efforts to help us become better citizens. Through you we have had our school building improved and made a better place in which to work and study. We realize that the problems confronting you in the past have not been easy to solve, but we hope that with the advent of the new high school building, the problems may be made easier and with your continued help, plans may be made for the future welfare of the boys and girls. 3 MISS FRITZ We, the graduating class of I953, wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to our advisors, Miss Fritz and Mr. Cramer, for their guidance and assistance through our four years of high school. Also, we would like to thank Miss Foley and Miss Blom for the many hours they have spent advising us and working with us on the Annual . Without their assistance the publication of our Aurora would have been impossible. Ill HPPHECIHTIUH MISS BLOM MR CRAMER MISS FOLEY 4 HDIHIHISTHHTIUH Congratulations to the Annual Staff for this fine book and For your choice of dedication, The Board of Education . We often speak of education for life, learning through life experiences, and of the public school's prime purpose of educating young people to go into com- munities to live and work as mature, active, helpful members of groups or committees. The School Board and my- selfare anxious that when you young men and women do leave our high school and become adult members of our com- munity, that you will contribute gener- ously to its betterment by planning and accomplishing good things, especially in helping to continue the development of good schools as one of the methods of improving our way of life. Louis M. King Superintendent of Schools .f f YVONNE W A laughing word, a gesture kind, we could not ask for more . is fill JOYCE Asina timepiece, it is accuracy and precision that count. To the graduating Seniors: We are proud of your accomplishments during your yearsin this school . You are to be congratulated upon meeting the stand- ards set For graduation. We hope each of you has achieved according to your abilities and desires. May the habits and routines which you have develop- ed, be those which will lead you to success. To the Underclassmen: Factsalone do not make up an education, but onl help to bui ld the framework upon which good reasoning and thinking can take place. School still exists only to help you make the most of your desires and abilities. Let's use it while you can. Willard l.. Swanson Principal of the High School CHfElEHIH Although a relatively new addition to our school, the cafeteria, whichfeeds about two hun- dred and fiftypeople, is a much appreciated improvement. To our cooks, a hearty Thank- you . LEFT TO RIGHT: W. Dufner, R. Peterson, C, Frasier, and E, Shearrow, BUS DRIVERS Regardless of sub-zero weather, six-foot snow drifts, drenching rain, or knee-deep mud, our faithful bus driversalways come through. JHHITUHS What would we do without our ianitors to keep our school warm and clean? lt is to either Mr. Peterson, Mr. Frasier, or Mr. Dufner we run for lost billfolds, tools, lad- ders, and dust cloths. One of the most active organizations in school, we inauguarated our season the first week of school by performing during the half-time at the Menomonie-Rice Lake football game, and thereafter at all home games. The highlight of our marching season was Homecoming, where we made a dancing hula girl. We were happy to attend the Eau Claire State College Homecoming, where our band march- ed in the parade and maneuvered before the game. The Fall season also saw such activities as the Band Carnival, Tag Da , appearance at the Senator Nixon rally here in Rice Lake, Armistice Day program, InstrumentafIClinic at Rice Lake, and Eau Claire, and the ioint Christmas Concert with the vocal department December I8. The future promises to be equally busy. Ahead lies the basketball season, the Massed Band Clinic at Lad smith, where bands from Bruce, Tony, Cameron, Winter, Weyerhauser, Rice Lake, and Ladyysmith will combine to form one huge band and present anafternoon concert. Members from each band will be chosen to form an All-Star Band, and they will present a concert in the evening. Next is our Spring Concert, March 26. Then we turn to the approach- ing District Music Festival here in Rice Lake, which is May 9. Starred ratings for solos and en- sembles received at this festival entitle the students to participate in the State Festival at Madison. Preceding this is our Pre-Festival Concert. Our season doesn't end with the closing of school in May. During the summer the band will participate in Memorial Day and Flag Day observances, summer concerts, Rice Lake Water Carnival, and the Barron County Fair. A busy season? Yes, but a most enioyable one. 46 JUHIUH BHHIJ STANDING, LEFT TO RIGHT: Robert Wolworth, Bruce Kirkham, Spencer Turner, Sandra Moore, Tom Hake, David Sccor, Kath- leen Kockelman, Kathryn Hodgson, Geraldine Halvorsen, Carmen Jones, ,lacquelyn Brown. Many of the former F. F. A. advisors have settled down on farms. At present we have sixty-six members in the F. F. A. We are one of the most active organizations in the school, partly because we also have a State Association of F. F. A. and a National Association of F. F. A. Each fall the F. F. A. members decide on a definite program of work for the year, appoint the committees and then accomplish their obiectives. Some of the activities that we have each year are: Parent and Son Banquet, Leadership Training School, Basketball Team, Camping Trip or Educational Tour. ln addition to those activities, we perform services for the farmers of the area such as, milk testing, soil testing, having available for use such things as, electric calf dehorner, electric cow clippers, elastrator, hoof trimmers, and butchering tools. Each year the local F. F. A. bo spurchase something usefulfor the agriculturalde artment. We have purchas- ed an adding machine, electric timing clock, computor books, allanecessary for milk testing, put S25. towards the two-way speaker, built one hundred new bulletin boxes and put chrome stripping around the tables in the agriculture room. The necessary money for all the activities is secured through the sales we make at the foot- ball games, and selling ice cream, cand , gum, peanuts, and popcorn during noon hours at high school. We also sell F. F. A. pencils, pocket knives, and deerskin gloves. The highlight of the year is the Parent and Son Banquet. We also invite the high school faculty and the Board of Education, which brings the total attendance to approximately 225 people. Hugdahl, E, Frazier, OUR SUCCESSFUL SEASO N The Rice Lake Warriors opened the l952 season against Menomonie at Tate Field. Menomonie displayed a very capable brand of football, and although the warriors managed to stop somewhat their running game, they took to the air to defeat us 38-0. Our team did show promise, however. The next opponent was Barron at Barron. This game found the warriors vastly improved over their previous performance, and although they won only 7-0, it should have been morel The third contest was against Hayward, which many believe was the turning point of the l952 season. This rough and tumble contest, which found Rice Lake playing without five of their regulars at one time, showed that the warriorswere strong in reserve. The half ended 7-7. Then the game see-sawed back and forth, until late in the fourth quarter, when co-captain, Burt Sprague, inter- cepted a pass and ran it back for the winning touchdown. The fourth contest found the warriors getting into high gear to beat Cumberland 26-0 at home. This was our third conference win. The entire team played good ball. Next on the warriors conference list was Ladysmith, in which, with Sirek leveling the way we won 26-0. Our happy homecoming with Spooner ended inthe warriors fifth conference victory. The score was I8-0. Losing the service of fullback Al Sirek early in the first quarter, the warriors lost to Chippewa Falls 7-25. This was the worst showing the warriors made all year. Rice Lake iourneyed to Bloomer sporting a 5-0 conference record. This game was to determine the conference champ. The warriors fought gallantly but lost 32-6 to end the successful season. The baseball team last year played ten games. The season was pronounced a success since they won six of these games and lost only four. They played allof the Heart of the North Teams, as well The team captain last year was Rolland Drost, and the two coaches were Mr. Clanton and Mr. The tournament was held in Rice Lake and the Warriors advanced to the Finals but lost to Barron GUlF TEHW Although golf is a fairly new sport in our high school, we have had an active team forthe past two years. The members of the team, whose coach is Mr. Ritzinger, are: Joe Cowell, Fred Moors, John Michalke, Bob Grell, Dave Halling, and John Dahlgren. These six team members have played matches with most of the other schools in this area and last year won all the matches except one. They also participated in tournaments at New Richmond and Cumberland . We hopeto have the conference tournament here this year .
