In the short history of our school, our achievements in varsity track meets have not been too notable. This year, starting with the Cross-Country Season, the team has shown that Rice is ready to take its place among the other schools of the city as a ranking con- tender in Catholic High School varsity com petition. The Irish Christian Brothers' Cross Country Meet saw Rice take its first varsity track title. Led by Gene Holmes, who finished third in the race, the squad won the meet by the comfortable margin of fifteen points. The other members of the team who finished among the first fifteen, to help clinch the title were, Frank Leahy, Mike Radigan, Iohn Brennan and Iohn Fahey. This triumph was a fitting climax to a season of hard work on the part of the team and Mr. Carroll, their coach. nl'

HIESIIMA CIIIISS-lillll llll Rice's Freshman Cross-Country Team was one of the city's best this year. Led by Matt Hennessey and Dan Shea, the team hung up a notable string of victories. In practice meets, Loughlin, Fordham Prep, Bishop Du- Bois, Seton Hall, and Power Memorial were among our victims. In championship compe- tion, Rice won the Bronx-Manhattan-Wesb chester Title and the Irish Christian Brothers' Title. Both of these meets saw Matt Hen- nessey establish new records tor the course. Dan Shea, the team's other star, linished third in the Bronx-Manhattan-Westchester Meet in a field of over one hundred competitors. In the Irish Christian Brothers' Meet he was again right behind Hennessey. The other members ol the team, who shared most in the triumphs were, Roy Crombie, Ed Delgado and Carmine DeSantis. The Freshman Squad, led by Hennessey and Shea, who are iust out of the picture, starting against Fordham and DuBois. Matt and Dan linished one, two in an easy team triumph. ALE, nhl.. .
