lHl MASS Ill NINllll HII Illllll flfll When the last bell sounded for the close of school 1n 1946 one of the most 1mportant phases of our lrves was closed and as the last vrbratron dred away on that sunny Iune day another leaf m the book of hte was turned presentlng to us another and even more rmportant step 1n our pursurt of a Catholrc educatxon The school of our chorce beckoned and when the prellmmanes were hmshed we settled down to four years of Secondary education under the d1rect1on of the men whom we have known and learned to love rn that relatively short penod Freshman year fraught wrth the scornmg glances of upper classmen was mdeed a strange expenence We hved rn a world of our own The roster of subjects was strange and stranger st1ll was the change of penod and teacher at regular rntervals For most of us the comparatrvely long Journey to and from school took some trme to take 1n our strrde We followed the basketball season and let 1t be scnd here and now contnbuted greatly to the athletrc program by supply1ng Frosh teams that were second to none Our track sectxon won medal after medal and the trophies around the bulldrng bear mute testr mony to the fact that the Frosh class was rn there pluggmg By the tlme the Soph year rolled around we were seasoned veterans We looked down on the poor Frosh Just start1ng and were glad mdeed that we were now rn the upper strata A few of our number were mrssmg because they drdnt know that theres no royal road to learmng Grade advisors had us well rn hand and some of us were screened both for scholastlc and leadershlp qualrtres At the close of the Soph year we hlled rn the necessary forms for a choxce of program and wrth the approval of the Grade Advxsor we prepared to take the electxves that we had chosen for the next two years As usual the year was topped off wrth the Boat Rrde the most relaxlng day ofthe year Once aga1n we faced the Regents Those of us who worked durmg the year were not greatly dls turbed but those of us who took thrngs easy had a few sleepless mghts burn1ng the m1d mght 011 When the results were publrshed that feelmg of freedom from school let out set rn and we were off to en1oy a much needed vacatlon 1948 September 10th to be exact had us moved up another rung on the ladder and as Iumors we were dehmtely ascendmg the herghtsl Much more would be expected ol us now and more than four hundred lowly underclassmen would s1t up and take notrce when we appeared on the scene Except for the Semors we were the brg guns Razors got more busmess thrs year Many of us had to hustle downtown at 2 45 to go to busr ness The Varsrty teams looked to us for bolsterlng and the Glee Club was rn need of basses The Phrladelphla Relays saw a few of our class sprrnters represent the Green 61 Gold and Almxghty God had blessed our class by call1ng several of 1ts members to the glorxous work of servmg H1m As the year drew to a close we were all agreed that Iun 1or year had 1ts pleasant memorxes True xt had 1ts ups and downs The Prefect of Drs c1pl1ne had hrs share of trouble from our men but by and large we cooperated wlth the faculty and we were we thlnk a typlcal Iun lor class ln a typlcal Amer1can Hrgh School There rs no doubt 1n our minds that Sen1or year 1s the outstandmg penod 1n any Hxgh School Thrngs happen so fast that 1t1s almost unbelrevable that rt 15 now all over Gettrng school rlngs workrng on the Commlttee for the Annual Bazaar gettmg the xmportant posts 1n the Servxce Squad the School Paper the Yearbook' The b1ggest pnvrlege of all asslstxng at Benedlctlon on Flrst Fndays The Sen1or Prom hrghhght of the socral year brought rnemorres that w1ll last a llfetlme The Senxor Farewell Dance a sad note rn an otherwlse gala affaxr The Day of Recollec t1on grven by Father Martm our compamon and spmtual advrsor for four years Gradua t1on Day day of days when Mom and Pop sat out front wrth tears rn their eyes and watched wzth pnde thexr hopefuls ap proach the Reverend Pnncrpal for that hard earned dlplomal And when rn a few short days 1t wxll be all over what can we say that w1ll adequately express our gratxtude to so many who have helped us along the way? We leave Rlce de termrned to put xnto practrce all that we can remember of the many fme thrngs we have learned here We shall look back through the years Wllh affechon for the men who taught us and when the fmal summons comes may we be able to say that we dld our best to be all that they wanted us to be 1 1 . . . 1 u . 11 , . . . . . .
