For several years he taught at the Seminary of Rio de Janiero, At the present time he is doing work in higher education at Columbia University. ' V4 5 ' ' O if A 5, x J v f M CND ' 12 f if KEKE FDM 7 CHQ!-,Twb Vff V ' Qzrf: V 'Q' Sumf' C' Gfff N rw Q4 C' 3 Class Hustory September Morn l945 found two hundred and fifty young fellows awakenung wutln the realuzatuon that a new phase of educatuonal development was awautung them They had chosen Ruce Hugh School as the guarduan of theur untellectual development for the next four years They knew that the goung was not goung to be easy but nevertheless wuth a stuff upper lup they entered the Portals of theur new Alma Mater determuned to guve ut a try l945 freshmen lowluest known varuety of homo sapuens buyung text books lookung over the new teach ers gettung ocquatnted wuth the fellows who knew the ropes unravellung the mystertes of amo amos amat etc searchung for the value of that elusuve X and best of all the regular peruod each week to use the pool Yes frosh year passed quuckly even though the final exams frughtened the tender young sters but the thought of the long vacatuon for those of us who dudnt have to attend summer school was encouragung Second year dawned and we notuced that some of the old faces were mussung Agaun the dun of the first week but soon there was smooth saulung and we were back agaun to the old grund Thus tume we were showung the newcomers around The Class of 49 always to the fore un the Mussuon Collectuon thus year forged ahead and was very hard to surpass Our co operatuon wuth the Bazaar Commuttee helped to make the l946 venture a huge success We were now represented un each of the many extra currucu lar actuvutues Soph year was very much luke frosh the work a luttle more advanced the patuence of the faculty not yet exhausted and the class ready to take uts first hugh school Regents Exams Faculty Advusors assugned our new program for the ensuung year For the .Iunuor year and untul Graduatuon we would be assugned to three courses Arts Scuence Busuness The doors closed behund us un June never to open agaun for some who could not be convunced that there us no royal road to learnung but the greater mauoruty of us were to return for the final two laps un the race for that coveted duploma September l947 found the busses rammed the subways overcrowded and there we were un the mudst of ut all on our way to take our place un the Junuor Yearl Thus year we were upper classmen At the Annual Retreat thus year we were to have a promunent part to play The Varsuty coaches would be draftung some of us and the school publucatuons ltsts would be supplemented wuth many of our names The scuence labs took lots of punushment from us and the lubrary had lots of busuness after school We entered the debatung competutuon sponsored by the Chrustuan Brothers of Ireland as well as the Ora tory Contests sponsored by the Hearst Publucatuons When the Track team went to the Penn Relays the class of 49 was well represented The Annual Boat Rude un June finushed the Socual Swurl for the year and the seruous busuness of addung up creduts as a prelumunary to enterung Senuor Year was begun By thus tume we were buyung the Senuor Rungs a good sugn that all was well Havung wrutten the exams successfully we were sent home wuth that wonderful feelung that un a few short weeks we would be Senuors Fourth year was all that we expected ut to be It was hard to realuze that thus was the final act As the curtaun went up we found ourselves un the Senuor Classrooms beung lectured by the faculty on the dutues of the Senuors We were to set the example for the rest of the school General duscuplune around the buuldung was to follow the pattern set by us A servuce squad was organuzed from among the hef tuer Senuors and uts task was to supervuse dusmussal lunch peruods traffic un the halls and generally super vuse wherever needed We take tume out to complu ment these men Theurs to say the least was a thank less uob but the student body generally realuzed that the Squad had done an excellent lob Class Mod erators gave pruvate conferences un order to have us apply un tume for College entrance Those who were not to further theur educatuon were guven lec tures on varuous posutuons un the busuness world Representatuves of the Army Navy Martne Corps and Natuonal Guard spoke to the Class and some sugned up The Senuor Prom held un Aprul was the Socual event of our young luves Held at the Park Sheraton Hotel Cocoanut Grove ut was attended by over one hundred members of the class The Prom Commtttee worked for weeks un advance to assure the class of top performance and ut wull long be remembered Once more and undeed for the last tume un hugh school we sat for the Gnal exams At thus wrutung we do not know the results but uf one us to uudge by former results a lot of fellows wull have success fully completed the search for that Pearl of great pruC9 A Catholuc Educatuon o 11 11 . -
