In this club we learn to live better so that in future years we may promote better homes. The purpose of the FHA is to promote international good will, to work for better homes and family life for all. The purpose of the FTA club as stated in their constitution is: To learn about the opportunities in teaching, to cultivate the qualities essential in a good teacher, to study the lives of great teachers, and to foster the development of student leader- shi added to this club. Some of the activities that are planned to help the members of the group understand about the teaching profession are: 1. To assist teachers with their work 2. Attend meetings where they are guests of the teachers 3. Visiting schools in order to observe the work being done so that they can decide whether or not to become teachers. p. DEBATE Cl. B The Debate Club this year has been very actively engaged in reseach and de- bating on the general topic of Free Trade. With the help of Mr. Lawson, our debate coach, our teams, affirmative and negative, have been very successful, During the course of the debating season, we had debates with the following schools: McDowell, North East, Wesleyville, Harborcreek, and Academy. In April, the main affirmative and negative teams participated in the Allegheny Debate Tournament at Allegheny College. Many schools from the northwestern portion of the state took part. Each team participated in ten rounds of debate. The experience and knowledge derived from the event was immeasurable and will not be forgotten by those who took part. One senior member will receive the Allegheny award at commencement. The best affirmative and best negative speakers will also receive awards at commence- ment. At the end of the year, the entire Debate Club, along with the other clubs of the county were rewarded by a banquet followed by a debate in which all the schools were represented. The Student Council is the organization in school that tries to help the students and faculty make decisions for the betterment of the school, the students and faculty. It sets up certain regulations for dances and noon hours. The club sold milk and operated ajuice machine. The Student Council also sponsors movies during the year which are interesting to the students. B. Baxter, J. Nagle. Two members ofthe council, John Endres, and John Dickey flew to Philadelphia for the Student Council Convention. They had the honor of being representatives farthest away. They learned many new ideas to help our Student Council. Near the end of the school year, the entire Student Council attended a district Student Council Convention which was held at Franklin this year. This was a three-day convention with representatives from the whole northwest district present. At this time, the Council heard speeches, participated in discussions, and talked with students from other schools to gain new ideas for our Student Council. OFFICERS President ....... ........
