Talked over new book and financial matters. Mostly financial matters. -Red letter day at Union! The U. H. Memorial Field was dedicated. A big thrill for everyone. -Big night-Union played Wesleyville on the home field. At half-time the Freshmen were initiated in fine style. Dance afterward in their honor-they earned it! OCTOBER -Six weeks' tests. Parody on Kipling: Lord, God of hosts was with us not. So we forgot. So we forgot. -6'Yeah, team, beat North East! was the theme of the day. -Was everybody happy? Sure enough. No school-Teacher's Institute. -Oh, our achin, backs! The Seniors left bright and early to pick potatoes. -Good or bad, we all received some news that day. You guessed it-report 1 cards. -A gala night. The annual Halloweien Carnival took place in the gym. NOVEMBER -Big game at Lawrence Park in the afternoon. The gals' night to howl- Sadie Hawkin's Day Dance in the gym. -Lucky day for Seniors! Boarded school bus for Erie to visit the court house and the jail. -Newspaper Staff play called Deadline Lots of fun for all. -All was quiet on the Union front. The reason? Audiometer tests. 26-More tests-the six weeks, kind. 29-Slept and ate and slept some more-vacation time! DECEMBER -A very important day! Dismissal at l:1t5g teachers meeting. -All Seniors took the Kuder Preference Test. Very interesting results, too. -What a bedlam!-locker inspection. As if that weren't enough-report cards, too. In their independent games the team won one and lost two. They beat Wesleyville 13-0 and lost to Franklin I2-0 and Millcreek 6-0. Sam Tome and Larry Pennica were the team's high scorers with 43 and 36 points, respectively. Larry Pennica and Aiaynard Sanders were chosen on the All County first team, while Dick Platz placed on the second team. Resolved-That the federal government should provide a system of com- plete medical care available to all citizens at the public expense. Although the debaters Worked hard, they still found time for a little fun. The two entertainment high lights of t.his year were the county debaters' dinner and the annual trip to Allegheny College. Their first perfor- mance was the Newspaper Staff play, Deadline,', written by Georgia lniigg. This was presented in an assembly program. However, their hit. of the year was Georg-ia's three act comedy, A Bundle From Britain. This play was so good that it rated a night performance. A command performance was given later at Battles Memorial School. The benefits from this play helped to finance this Unitas. Many thanks to Georgia and the cast for their grand work. Immediately after the initiation of the new members, they started making plans for the year. The F. F. A. is our traveling club. They made bus trips to farm shows in Waterford and Jefferson, Ohio. Many of the fellas, accompanied by Mr. Venman, attended the state farm show at Harrisburg for several days. That was the treat of the year for the boys. The year came to a close with the annual F, F. Without a doubt, they were successful because on April I0 and I l the audience heard some beautiful music. We were all proud ol' them. The chorus made one trip to Wesleyville in April to give a musical program in return for the one they brought to us earlier in the year. The joke of the year was heard at chorus rehearsal just before the concert when lllr. Wood said, All right, girls, 'Kiss Me Againif' We'll never quite forget that one. As any inelnbcr will tell you, the chorus is one place where work can be fun. And the wonderful thing is that their work gives the rest ol' us enjoyment, too. VVe've heard them play every day this year and, at lirst, it sounded pretty awful. But, under the direction of Mr. Wood, they've made so much progress that we actually look forward to eighth period practice. The band made several appearances this year, but their big nights were April 10 and ll when they took part in our annual spring concert. 'l'heir music makes us realize how valuable an asset a school band can be. A long and happy year ahead. But how these last few months have sped! Remember all those football games We cheered through sun and cold and rain. We fought for East-West title fame. But that was when we lost the game. Remember all those freshmen looks So frightened as they held our books. Then fellows gave the gals a chance To date for the Sadie Hawkins Dance. Then came the winter ice and snow And how those winter winds did blow! They kept us from our teachers fond. No school meant skating on the pond. One night to our dismay we found Our gym was strewn with cans around. The gals were dressed without a ilounce, That's right-it was The Boxcar Bounce. The Senior Prom, that gala night, lelelped store away our memories bright. The Senior Play, a huge success, Caine with those awful final tests. That happy week-end that we spent When on our senior trip we went. Ah, yes, these days were filled with fun, But now all our high school days are done.
