DEDICATION THIS ISSUE of Portfolio is dedicated to MR. MATLACK PRICE, who is terminating thir- teen years of service with the Rhode Island School of Design. Mr. Price has spent a total of twenty-six years teaching, and his philosophy, the antithesis of indoctrination, is that of helping the undergraduate to learn. He is, in every sense, a gentleman and a scholar.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT EACH GENERATION of college students leaves something of itself in the institution. This something is not to be confused with the record in the Registrar’s office which is a measure of what has been received. The student and the class inherit a complex of attitudes and in turn modify these attitudes. In this way the students individually and collectively help to make the college tradition. What each class gives is not easily analyzed but that it is real and sometimes substantial is beyond question. The yearbook, being a creation of the class, will reflect this quality. It is to be hoped that this book may remind you of happy and profitable years spent within the college and that you can as an alumnus continue to exert an influence that will help those who will take your place.
