Jak IL JB IE PIB IN FROM UCU JP IRIE SMUD INE TE (MOMS eghuy Te iL overs) TONE UWE In a recent visit to Charleston, its old houses and neighboring planta- tions, it was my sood fortune to see Mulberry Plantation (open to the public in April). This Plantation is dramatically situated on a commanding hill overlooking the Ashley River. Built in 1714, two years later square forts were added at the 4 corners of the house for protection against Indians. As the land slopes from the house to the river, there is a sheltered terraced oarden and in the midst of azalea bloom stands a sundial with the follow- ing inscription: “Secure, | stand among the flowers And only count the sunny hours — Dark days for me do not exist I'm a brazen-faced old optimist. John Parker London 1703” Trusting this has been your experience during your four years here, and 24 y: I gy y hoping it may be your omen for the future is the wish of Nhl th: Daasfred INOTE: As of May 7th, 1947, it was announced that Mrs. Danforth had tendered her resignalion as President of the School and had been appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees. At the same time it was announced that Dean Max W. Sullivan had been appointed President and Mr. Albert Simonson, Dean of the School.—Eprrors. |
