The climax of the season was the trip provided by en- thusiastic sportsmen among Rhinelander's business men. Chartering a Greyhound bus, the team was taken to Mad- ison for the University's game with the Minnesota champ' ions. It was a fitting close for a great season, permanently recorded by the trophy that is now in the possession of thc school. 11 4, ii Page Thirty WALTER KICHEFSKI Vots, the old war- horse, was a big factor in Rhineland- er's victorious sea- son, Although unable to play in the last two games, because of a broken ankle, his stellar line play in the first five games earned him a berth on the all-conference team, DON O'MELIA The other half of Rhinelander's t w i n combination. Don, a three-letter man, was a dependable ground gainer. BUD FRANK T h e diminutive member of the squad, who literally ran out from under his op- ponents. Very elusive in open field running. RALPH STROMME A versatile line man. When called up- on to do so, he per- formed equally well at center and tackle. DICK O'MELlA One of Rhineland- er's twin half-backsg an excellent punter, and great open field runner. Page Thirty-one luwr' YY, , , .. ,-.........-..-ml gjk. ,,:::.' H ELGESON A consistent player, who could be relied on to be where he was needed when he was needed. DON STEADMAN A good back-Held man who did a fine job at quarterback when needed. BENNY MURPHY A son of the fight- ing lrish, who played end on the all-confer- ence side of our line. In Boston in the year 1635 a Latin school was organized which sought to give their youth what they thought was a thorough secondary level education. It was a meager offering compared to the varied and extensive program offered today. Since the establislnnent of this first secondary school, there has been constant progress made by educational leaders in improving schools and their olferings. ,lforty-five years ago the first graduate of Rhinelander high school received a diploma. Since that time the enrollment has increased to 500 students, with a course of study broad enough to fit the needs of most of our students. just as the high school movement has progressed for 300 years in the United States, so our own unit of this movement has progressed for forty-five years. The students of today have opportunities in school that the students of yes- terday hardly dared dream of. However, the graduates of today are facing greater handicaps than the graduates of any previous age. lt is up to the students and graduates of our American high schools to face these problems and solve them, not merely for the present but for future generations. lt is up to you students and members of the graduating class of Rhinelander high school to face the problems in your community and nation, to aid in trying to solve them, that succeeding generations may benefit by your efforts and graduates of future classes may face a brighter future.
