Du11ng leisure hou1s the kn1ghts staged plays and glorious pageants 111 which different members took part Foremost among these was the dr1m1 I ost 1 Comet Y dnected by Buoness Ella Trumbletwm A l1ttle later the term w LS closed for the hot months and the crusa ders yourney ed homew 1rd to spend the tlme w1th their km Some vis lted dist mt lmds and guned new lnslght mto the world s affairs Next xutumn the fund Master summoned the knights again to strive onw nd and upw nd Th1s year each degree moved a degree h1gher the fO1mL1 Kn1ghts of the C rad having left and new ones havmg come in 'lhc former Kmghts of the Frosh now became Kmghts of the Soph Th1s ye mr the Sophs had more formidable foes Bad Engllsh was getting too much power 1n the clstle so a vlgorous campalgn was started All the degiees were forced to un1te IH one great band to repel the repeated attacks of Bad English Here w as an enemy whlch had become one of the strongest rlght under the noses of the crusaders The entlre castle was decked out IH gala attlre Posters adorned the walls all urgmg the kn1ghts onward A very 1mpress1ve pageant was staged IH wh1ch gay kn1ghts md fair ladies took part Tag day was a busy day the proceeds serving to buy dictionaries This year too tournaments were ever more popular Two Soph nobles pl lyed this year the latest addition in the person of Count de Bones the Second W1th llghtnlng speed he play ed circles around the befuddled oppos1ng contestants A large crowd arrayed 1n green and whlte w1th ten cent r1ngs attended the Ant1go tournament Lists were also popul lr among the four degrees of the order A tour nament was held on the grounds of the castle IH which the gladlators of the dlfferent degrees bedecked 1n gay apparel clashed for the cup offered by Sir Jethro de Shumw xy Ladles in the gallery urged on the bloody contest with as much unconcern as though they were watching a ping pong game Amid cheers and ieers a wounded warrior was dragged from the field and a new one installed in his place In the llsts the Kmghts of the Soph lost by one polnt A peace delegatlon was sent to Three Lakes the lnhabltants of which w1lfully st lrted a quarrel on Open Qhop but the hlgher m1nded Kmghts of the Soph refused to cope with so small a foe at arms and sent a delega tion to quiet them Sir Frederick of Crassus S1r Kn1ght of the Bleedlng Hart and Barthold de How ard all sons of the Soph succeeded 1n calming the fiery mob by a1b1trat1on A peace board was started by the Sophs whose purpose was to settle Just such disputes Members of the board were from all degrees of the order and were united into a friendly group Quarrels were settled by arb1trat1on and were handled w1th splendid sk1ll cons1der1ng that the board was 1 new 1dea I xter generations call such arb1trat1on debate A newspaper was publ1shed by the Sophs an ent1rely new 1dea 1n the order It concerned the book of Silas Marner the paper bemg d1v1ded 1nto th1ee 1ssues The publication was due to the unusual demands of her Highness Gertrudio Br1ethaupt1o who planned the monstrous enter pr1se Other battles were fought which required wadmg through the marshy fields of Botany besieging towns and the llke Meanwhlle the KH1ght9 of the Soph have grown in stature and mind and the closlng of the second term or crusade finds the Qophs far more advanced than ln the1r first year This ends the deeds of two years but remember gentle reader that there are two years more IH which the Sophs of 1920 will add new honor to the1r already glorious record M J 22 Q' ' 1 1 1 I ' 1 1 I . 7 1 1 1 1 1 K A ' 1 ' 1 1 ' ' ' 4 1 1 ' 0 L L , , H . f Y' ' - 1 1 . 1 1 1 ' 5 4 , A 1 , c . r 1 1 , ' , 1 ' 12 L1 1 S 1 1 S - . 7 H 1 .
