Lynch, cache Wclufofuf Our four years in high school can easily be compared to the production of a circus. To most people a circus means a lot of fun and frolic. However, for those who present it, it means a good deal of hard work, too. Instead of a three -ring circus we have participated in four rings, each one representing a year of high school. The first ring was our freshman year in 1950-51. Of course, being strangers in this business, we were rather afraid of everything around us. For our first showing, though, we managed to have a successful dance called THE THING. Our popcorn concessions consisted of food sales which started us financially on our way to Washington, The acrobats in our first ring were the girls and boys who took part in the JV basketball, baseball and cheerleading squads. Moving on to our second ring gave us all more self-confidence. As sophomores we again made more money by having a dance and successful food sales. A new type of entertainment was biology. Since this year was the first time this course was given in RCS, we took pride in cutting up planaria, giving them all sorts of names and causing one of them to reproduce into five. This year we also moved into a new tent which has housed us since. After our second performance was completed we decided to splurge and so spent a wonderful day together, swimming and picnicking. During our third showing we really put our best foot forward. By this time we were experts in all the tricks of the trade, Our troupe was well organized and continued to gain success in all we did. Our paper drives probably made us look like clowns, with ten juniors climbing out of a truck already filled with newspapers and magazines, Despite the jesting this was our largest means of income. By doing some fast acting we were able to obtain our class rings before Christmas, and after kicking off our shoes, produced our Tootsie Toss. Near the end of this act we dimmed the lights and surprised our audience with the Moonlight Fantasy. This was the most successful prom in many years, but couldn't have been done without the help of the sophomores. Next came our senior year and the finals to our circus. The first big occasion was the election of a new ringmaster, which Arnold Pease won by one vote. We continued our paper drives despite the cold. As a special act we produced One Mad Night, which was directed by Miss Caughran and Mrs. Osborn. The girls donned some of Dorothy Greenough's costumes and presented a Fashion Hotel, aided by the boys in some barber shop singing. During our fourth ring performance we took time out for a vacation trip to Washington, which I'm sure no one will forget. Now we will soon be judged by our past acts. If we have learned our parts well and have done everything to the best of our abilities, our applause will come in the form of diplomas. These we will take with pride as the band ushers us through the doors of our tent, sending us out to take our part in the world. 499 61444 Fw Eve Applegate, a little whiz, Soon will be teaching second grade kids, I'll be a bookkeeper, says Carol A. Our moving up day skit with Carol Conklin Stealing the show Posing as the little doggie in the window. Our selected voices led us to Varsity Chorus, And those weekly rehearsals never did bore us. The Junior band members hit some fabulous notes, That would never go down in history, or ever go in quotes. We're always up to some new crzeg As the selling of those books the School Daze. Anything can happen with our bright scholars, Who're always doing something to net us more dollars, Our numerous boys on the basketball team And the Junior cheerleaders who cheered them on with great esteem. Remember our dance the Sody Pop Hop ? That put all other dances to a stop! Well, this is the end and we'll say, our friends, But don't your fret and fear, You'll be seeing us all in the Patroon next year! Sa 'ze 63444 First row, left to right: Mr. Cullen, Advisor, G. To start the year off, we had the Sadie Hawkins Dance --the first dance of its kind and a great success, We boast of varsity and junior varsity stars and also some cute JV cheerleaders, Members of our class are really tops in music, They belong to Band, Mixed Chorus and Varsity Choir, From our class we have soccer and hockey team members, to say nothing of members of various clubs. We were lucky enough to get Mr. Harrington as our class advisor and he has really started us into high school with a bang, 549441 qua First row, left to right, J, Pulver, A, DuBois, J, White, E, Tyler, L, Beach, K, Welch, J, Hobson, B. COLTON 1953-54 enema The Rhinebeck Indians finished the 1953-54 season in a tie for second place with Red Hook and Oakwood, all teams having a 6-4 record. First place winner this year was again Pine Plains with a 10-0 record, In mid-season we lost our best rebounder in Jack Resell, and Tom Connair also left the team, With the members who remained to help with the rebound- ing chores, we missed many balls that might have been ours if we had had more height on the team. The season record for all the contests played was 7-7, with Jack McAuley and Bruce Knapp leading the team with 13. 5, 12.4 averages respectively per game. The Rhinebeck Indians soccer team, in its first year of league competition wound up with a 2-6 league record and 4-6 record for total games. Although finishing with an average of , 400, the team shows promise of future development, It was only two years ago that soccer was introduced into the Central School sports program and this year was its first as a varsity sport, Although it is impossible to predict the future success of the team we would like to wish the team and Mr. Crosby much success in the future. ' 'Spode Captains for intramural teams were chosen from the senior class and captains for interschool teams were elected by the honor squad, which is appointed as representing R. C. S, for competition with other schools. There were five or six teams for each sport depending upon the interest in participation, with the girls taking turns officiating. The honor squad for fleld hockey in the fall of 1953 were tmdefeated against Wapplngers Falls, Millbrook, Germantown, and Philmont. In volleyball the girls were defeated in their only game at Wappingers Falls. In this same sport there was a good Ulm-Out for the intramurals games, which were played before Christmas. Basketball began in January. There were several intramural teams. Two honor squads were chosen to play against similar teams at Phllmont, Arlington, Roosevelt, Oakwood and Millbrook. Bowling, an after school project, also began in January. Six teams were appointed, Each team took turns setting pins. The use of the alleys was donated, with a small fee for bowling shoes. Archery was added to the program as an early spring sport and softball continued, Although golf is not a part of the physical education program, interest was shown as an extra-currlcular activity.
