BRIDGES Dvd kaiia HORACE K. BAKER We wish to dedicate this fourth edition of the PATROON to Horace K, Baker, industrial arts teacher and friend to all. We thank you Mr. Baker for giving us advice, for quietly showing us the weak points in our plans , the swell ideas you had for the Class of 1952, but above all for being such a faithful friend and advisor through our four years of high school. lf ar 150 k fdita N Seated: Elizabeth Bridges, Treasurerg Shirley Cutler, Art Editor: Edward Glynn, Editor - in - Chief: Dolores Stone, Literary Editor: Virginia Ross, Production Editor. Standing: Charles Forsman, Advertising Editorg Arthur Bergles, Photography Editor: Mr. Smith, Advisorg Irving Rogers, Assistant Photography Editorg Susan Schaad, Secretary. Zrrcword We who were the grass - green freshmen of 1948 are about to assume larger responsibilities in the world and so we publish this PATROON in the fond hopes that the happy associations and friendships formed here may live beyond our four years at Rhinebeck Central. When sense has replaced some of the nonsense of our high school days, we shall still leaf the pages of the '52 PATROON and relive some of our adventures. '51 ,nur lub: .- !?R.. RCP. 3: C1838 Secretary 2: Operetta Chorus 4, Smia 611155 Msfary Way back in '48, not that anyone could forget, we the class of 1952 entered senior high with lots of ideas. We found ourselves at the bottom of the ladder in the eyes of the upper class - men but nothing daunted us. We began the year with a bang and boldly became the first freshman class to hold a dance, We finished off the year with an exciting trip to the dark depths of Howe Caverns . Remember? After which we had our class picnic. Our class, never resting, even as Sophomores, took first prize at the square dancing contest. Bill L. brought the class more fame as he stole the show playing the part of Wilbur , The Denim Dance' was something new in the way of dances and entertaimnent that netted us a little money and more acclamation yet. The Iumpin' Juniors beat everybody to the draw as they presented the first dance of the term, the Junior Quickie . 'This was followed by the Overall Hop and an equally success-I ful Junior Prom. I Bright, new shiny, class rings suddenly adomed our fingers ln the middle of February as we proudly displayed them for all to see. We also threw the cake into the works. Our food sales brought us a few needed pennies , At the end of three years hard work, we finally made itl We became the SnaPPY Seniors . Candy and soda became our steadysources of income. Our Ham Dinner also boosted our bank account, Bi1lL. , Pat W. and Chas, F, gave their campaign speeches in assembly. It was tough to guess who would win the election but it seemed Chas. had the majority of votes. Chas. then became the big whee1 of IL C. S. as the president of the G, O, The operetta, 'Sunbonnet Girll' and its cast captured the audience with its songs, jokes and plots, Remember how Betsy had the audience rocking with her solo? At last came Easter. After working for four long years we had enough money to spend a week on the road, We left on a Monday and caught a boat in Baltimore for Norfolk. Following this thrilling boat trip we went to Williamsburg and to top it off spent a couple of fun-packed days in Washington, D. C. , returning on Friday, In June of 1952, after spending four years packed with fun and work, we proudly took our places on the stage of our new gym ready to receive our diplomas and face the hard work to come in the world out of school, 611155 Zfraplzecy Dolores Stone will be a mathematics teacher If she doesn't first take a trip to the preacher. Rosemary Briggs wants to be a wife Slaving contentedly for her man all her life, Sandy Tremper an old maid school teacher will be That is something we won't believe till we see. We'll soon see Pat Wheeler a test pilot of jets Risking her life for the thrills that she gets. Arlyne Moore we see as secretary to President Truman If she doesn't rush into the White House it'll probably be a new man Iohn Fraleigh wants to be the buyer for a millionaire That's something no one else would ever dare. Virginia Ross claims she'll be a bookkeeper -- maybe, While Ed Gray will for twenty years join the U, S, Navy. Ann Conklin will go to college, then travel First books and then highways she'll unravel. While Shirley Bonesteel will join the women's service No branch in particular she's not the least bit nervous. Bernice Lattin will be a factor worker soon The company she works for has really got a boon. Paul Johnson will be a millionaire playboy Contentedly for many years showing his true joy. What is it? Can it be? Yes! It is the Class of '53. Yes, we're always late, We hold the record of being most tardy. But the school year is at an end and the Juniors have finally proved the fact that they are slow but sure, Let's100kback over the year at their most meritorious deeds, Bob Eggleston, our Junior basketball star, left us in January to do his duty for his country as a future naval hero. The Junior musicians of the past year have attained great heights in the field of music. Those Junior cheerleaders sure looked snappy out on that basketball court. Those discussions, that always started out quietly over those famous Junior dances and activities, always ended up in chaos. Our first dance, the Harvest Hop, proved that anything the Juniors do is sure to be a success. Every class believes that its class rings are the best, but we Juniors feel that ours are far superior to any others we might have chosen. These last few lines we devote to Miss Caughran, our warden for the year. We appreciate her help very much -- we Juniors may have made a few slight mistakes. We may have been last, we may have been late, But ours is a class That is truly great. Each member had a tough assignment to do but with fine cooperation from everyone, every event was successful. The band of forty started the school year by working hard to obtain new uniforms which they accomplished through the cooperation and aid of many community groups. This task was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Rhine - beck. Many members changed instruments for better musical balance but they came out on top at the competition festival plus playing at the dedication of the new school and presenting a spring concert, This year found the largest mixed chorus ever in our high school, A total of 105 voices presented a Christmas concert and a Spring concert. At each performance the junior choir numbering 60 voices joined the mixed chorus to present a climax of vocal singing. The Varsity Choir: Band and 22 soloists, duets and trios entered the state competition festival. Last years winners were: Band, OrchestragChoirg all wltnliratings. Dolores Stone, Richard Gazen, Sally vonder Linden, Pat- ricia Wadlin, Sandra Tremper and Michael Bouche all received A ratings. Phyllis Conklin, Sally Merryweather, Arthur Bergles, Ioan Sindt, Doris Bowman and Majorie Rogers lviolin duetl all received B ratings.
