CLASS PROPHECY The time is 1958. Many outstanding events have been recorded in history during the last ten years. Many inventions have been made and others improved upon but none perhaps more than the progress made in television between the years 1948 and 1958. By simply turning the radio dial one can not only hear but also see many of the events that are making current history. Having completed my day's work, I spend one evening just to enjoy watching some of these events occur, hoping something will relieve a rather nostalgia condition. I turn on the radio at random and lean back in my easy chair. I hear the farniliar voice announcing 79 Wistful Vista but surely that isn't Fibber McGee and Molly. That voice is familiar. I lean forward quickly. Television perrnits a glimpse. That voice is Alice Riddle! These ten years have not changed Alice. She is still the laughable, likable, fun-loving person of 1948, and, although, her partner in this teazn is unknown to me, she is courteously, carrying on. The prograrn was enjoyable and I promise myself to tune in each Tuesday. I pull up closer to the radio but the next prograrn is announced as a political program with the Speaker of the House of Representatives giving day by day events in Congress I laugh to my self Yes just as eas1ly as he slipped out of l1tt1e scraps in school by fast talking Bill Barton has slipped into Congress The commercials are still as apparent in 1958 as they were in 1948 The next prograxn is sponsored by one of the largest stores in the heart of New York Czty The television screen shows crowds milhng around one certain customer who is ordenng so many green, p1n.k and yellow sets of hnen The lady turns around The carnera bulbs flash The announcer says Ladzes and Gentlemen, in th1s select store you will find the most exclusive shoppers for instance here on my right The New F1rst Lady as making purchases preparatory to moving 1nto the White House Why that s the Darlene Garber of Old R H S 1948 fa.me' The sports review is next on the program I reach out to turn off my rad1o because that feature doesn t partxcularly interest me But wait' Whose voice is that? The coach of Southern California is spealung to has team Get in there and fight boys Fight hard but play fa1r' Wm if you can but always remember that we play good clean games Who is that coach who has such high ideals ? In just a moment he turns around and I mstantly recognize Lyle Dragoo The thought comes to me Why he is employing the same booster speech that Coach Vance used to spur the Reynolds Tigers on to victory back 1n 1948 Star Time is the next featured program Televxsion 18 focusmg on the most celebrated stars of Hollywood Ah, Oscar Award winners are to be a.nnounced thls evemng Is that Gregory Jean accepting the award in the uumitable language of Hollywood? But no' ' That srnile that poxse that sense of accomplishment that is Barbara Gregory of Three Moss Roses fame But who is that second Oscar recipient? There stand1ng by Barbara s side is the outstandmg supporting actor of the year B111 Shoots He IS acclaamed as The Frank Sinatra of 1958 Thus the class of 1948 provides many pleasant memories as lt passes on into history ln this May evening in 1958 telev-ls1on affords much cheer for me Wanda DeFra1n as I s1t alone m m mountain cabin assist must: shunt :stats must: 4:41:41 masts: STUDENT COUNCIL FUNCTIONED The student council was a newly forrned orgamzatmn 1n Reynolds I-hgh School thas year The purpose of this orgamzation was to form a lmk between the faculty and the students Many problems were brought before the councll Wzth a defuute attempt to settle the matter most satisfactonly to all concerned, the councal convened and dxscussed these questxons The students were very cooperative to the suggestmns made The faculty was courteous and cons1der ate 1n helping carry out the suggestions The officers were chosen by the indiv1dual class Each class had the priv1lege of electing one representative on the council The student body choose one representatxve at large The Student Council thus chosen appomted 1ts president Wanda DeFrain Thxs year the off1cers were Representative at large Darlene Garber Senior Class Representative Wanda DeFra1n Junior Class Representatxve Delores Garber Sophomore Class Representative Rozella Mnchels Freshman Class Representative Joan Safar The council as an organizatmon has proven very satzsfactory It has brought the Faculty and Student Body closer together ll . .- . . . 5 I I I . . . . . . . 9 1 . ,, .
