64 Dedicated fo tAe One 0e dlave .. !' un lease fasten your seat belts. We’re about to land.” is a familiar phrase the 1987-88 yearbook recipient, Miss Mary Lynn Varley has often heard, B as she enjoys traveling around the world. Some of her more memorable A vacation spots have been visits to Ireland, East Berlin, Germany, Boston, and Vancover, Canada. Future excursions on her wish list are visits to China, England, Russia, and back to Germany and Ireland. Although throughout her high school years at Reynolds she always wanted to be a teacher, after graduation, she started out as a science major, attending the University of Pittsburgh; she was pursing a pharmaceutical career. However, during the course of her study she changed her major to German in which she earned her Bachelor Degree of Science. Afterwards Miss Varley remained at Pitt to complete one year of master work in Latin. After receiving her position at Reynolds, she attended Youngstown State University part-time, where she eventually merited her Master of Arts in English. Since then she has gone back to Y.S.U., picking up a few courses in photography and computers. Miss Varley is a very active and busy faculty member, as she is adviser for the year book and German Latin Club and co-adviser for the National Honor Society. When she finds the time in between the chaos of yearbook meetings, she enjoys reading, gardening, photography, quilting, and playing backgammon and tennis. She also enjoys raising Cocker Spaniels, as she shares her home with four. Her baby dog ii named Bear; the other three are her mother's, but as she says, “What’s yours. Mother, is mine.” Some day she would like to own a greenhouse and a kennel for Cocker Spaniels Some of her favorites are the movie Dr. Zhivago, actress Meryl Streep, musical grou| Heart, and the song Memories from the musical Cats. Kim Lary, president of National Honor Society, stated, “Miss Varley is a very under standing and responsible person. This dedication is very appropriate, since she is ver committed to her teaching and other related activities.” 16 Introduction Counter Clockwise. Four's company? The laid back life of the Irish definitely cap- tivates Miss Varley, as she contemplates looking for the pot o’ gold. Til get that shot of that leprechaun, yet.
