Tears of joy dampen Holly’s face as she’s crowned by last year’s queen Angie Murcko. Some shade-y characters! The Raiders started out Homecoming night, September 25, with a roll over the Sharpsville Blue Devils, 46-17 At halftime Angie Murcko relinquished the crown of Homecoming queen to Holly Messina. The other attendants included seniors Vicki Kasbee and Tami Sherbondy, junior Michele Blake, sophomore LeaAnn Koehne, and freshman Janelle Ondo. The Homecoming dance was from 8-11 p.m. on September 26 for grades 9-12. The students who attended danced to the beat of the ‘‘Rockaholics.” The theme was “I Won’t Forget You.” The memories of this joyful occasion will never be forgotten. ‘‘It was every bit as good as other years if not better. The weather was in our favor,” stated Mrs. Carol Moon, math teacher and co-advisor of Stu- dent Council. Kimberly Jo Malencia Introduction 5 Couples. Below. On the count of three, turn and fire! Right. Together to the end of time. Do I have a proposition for you! Pretty as a picture. I wanna 'hold your hand. 6 Introduction “ 4 JlcCtfe Sit Lockers. Counter Clockwise. Where’s a step ladder, when ypu need one! The collegic look. Is it Christmas, yet? (HOHO). If you think this is mpssy, you should see my bedroom. STARTLING NEWS Your locker reveals the true you Did you know that there are 2,409 lockers in our school; however, only about 45% of them are actually used. Of course we all know how empty lock- ers are confiscated by upper classmen, and thus the actual percentage is prob- ably considerably higher. Many students reveal their true selves by adding miscellaneous items to their lockers. You can always tell the ‘‘jock’s” lock- er for the inside door is lined with photos of beauties in bathing suits or better yet a centerfold (without the sta- ple) of Miss June. On the other hand, the “popular” girl’s locker is filled with everything from vanity miribrs and memo pads to pictures of Chippendale dancers and lip gloss. And then finally there are the two complete opposites. The “neat” fanatic who alphabetizes all their books and makes sure everything is dust-free, while the “first class slob shoves ev- erything and anything in his locker, causing an avalanche every time he opens his locker. But this just goes to show the saying ‘To each his own” is alive and well at Reynolds High. Rey- nolds High School will put in a bid for the summer games in 1992 to be held in an anonymous field in Fredonia. In addition to the traditional events, we have added a few of our own. Sophomore Riche e Campbell is our first promising competitor in a new Olympic event; she will be participating in the “52 + pick- up . hoping to merit the title of Quicker Picker Upper. Her train ing ground is the yellow hall where she can be found most any after- noon wiling away the hours. Good luck. Richele. A second participant is Miles Lawrence, a leading contender in flag raising and lowering. Miles practices daily and has an assis- tant. Miss April DeWolf, who might act as a substitute if Miles’ strained biceps don’t improve. Jody and Jami King are considered experts in the field of sib- ling rivalry. Since day 1 these two seniors have been vying with each other for first place. Action between these devoted athletes is expected to be a fight to the bitter end. Jami was quoted in the press last week as stating that even though Jody looked like him, she was not identical and therefore could not be expected to be vic- torious. Another prominent competitor is Charlene Kuhn; she is the World Junior Champion in co-ed arm wrestling. She will be defend- ing her title against arch rival Brad “Cooter Manville who lost to her during the World Championship Tournament. Brad has been building muscle recently by following a high protein diet. Most nights will find him working up a big appetite at Pizza Joe’s Our final contender for the games is Sherry Fenton who is shown above at a recent practice session. Sherry, as many of you are probably unaware, is the World Champion Morocco Beater Sherry displays a love for this sport. She showed considerable skill at an early age when she, carrying a baseball bat, began to chase her younger brother Matt. We at Reynolds wish the athletes the best ol luck. We’re about to land.” is a familiar phrase the 1987-88 yearbook recipient, Miss Mary Lynn Varley has often heard, B as she enjoys traveling around the world. Some of her more memorable A vacation spots have been visits to Ireland, East Berlin, Germany, Boston, and Vancover, Canada. Future excursions on her wish list are visits to China, England, Russia, and back to Germany and Ireland. Although throughout her high school years at Reynolds she always wanted to be a teacher, after graduation, she started out as a science major, attending the University of Pittsburgh; she was pursing a pharmaceutical career. However, during the course of her study she changed her major to German in which she earned her Bachelor Degree of Science. Afterwards Miss Varley remained at Pitt to complete one year of master work in Latin. After receiving her position at Reynolds, she attended Youngstown State University part-time, where she eventually merited her Master of Arts in English. Since then she has gone back to Y.S.U., picking up a few courses in photography and computers. Miss Varley is a very active and busy faculty member, as she is adviser for the year book and German Latin Club and co-adviser for the National Honor Society. When she finds the time in between the chaos of yearbook meetings, she enjoys reading, gardening, photography, quilting, and playing backgammon and tennis. She also enjoys raising Cocker Spaniels, as she shares her home with four. Her baby dog ii named Bear; the other three are her mother's, but as she says, “What’s yours. Mother, is mine.” Some day she would like to own a greenhouse and a kennel for Cocker Spaniels Some of her favorites are the movie Dr. Zhivago, actress Meryl Streep, musical grou| Heart, and the song Memories from the musical Cats. Kim Lary, president of National Honor Society, stated, “Miss Varley is a very under standing and responsible person. This dedication is very appropriate, since she is ver committed to her teaching and other related activities.” 16 Introduction Counter Clockwise. Four's company? The laid back life of the Irish definitely cap- tivates Miss Varley, as she contemplates looking for the pot o’ gold. Til get that shot of that leprechaun, yet. Working in the auditorium, the Red Cross volunteers drew blood from the willing (or maybe not so willing) students and teachers. Teacher of the Year, Mr. Dan Schneider, was perhaps one of the not-so-willing. “I have got to be one of the biggest chickens in the world,” he commented, “it’s painless, though; it’s the worrying that kills you.” Senior Shannon Crytzer stated sarcastically, Loads of fun! I was stabbed! But we got out of class ...” Classmate Denny Daniello added with a smirk, After you come to for the third time, it’s all downhill!” Nevertheless all agreed that it’s a worthwhile effort and an experience they’ll never forget. Thanks to the time and energy of Colleen Kelly and Peg Green, co-organizers of the annual event, those who participated in the blood drive learned firsthand the true meaning of the expression: Give till it hurts.” Shawna Garner 86 Features « 'ZO oyie ZctyCe Clockwise. PMEA DISTRICT V BAND FESTIVAL On January 27 through January 30, Reynolds hosted the PMEA Dis- trict V Band Festival. Students from forty-two schools in Mercer, Law- rence, Butler, and Beaver counties met for a strenuous three-day sched- ule which included two concerts on Friday and Saturday nights. The musicians were eager to share their first impressions of Reyn- olds. Some were complimentary, some were not. Hilary Martwinski of Laurel High School was favorably impressed by the cafeteria sound sys- tem. I like the radio in the cafeteria, she stated enthusiastically al- though she expressed disappointment in the size of the school itself. Many students complained about the cafeteria food. Another standard complaint was the layout of the school. “The shape is confusing,” com- plained Barry Westcott of Mohawk. One big plus according to Chris Men- and of Beaver High School was the vending machines. Of course, she did find one thing irresistable - “I also like the sheep at Lori’s!” (Wetzel) Features 87 'ZOc Ua I Rockin’ Raider Rap Wishin’ and hopin’ to win the big game. Our sales rep from Walsworth Publish- ing Company is Mr. Bernard Magirl. He acts as our liason with the company in numerous ways. He is a valuable “member” of our staff who provides us with advice and sug- gestions. Thank you, Bernie! Mr. Ron Leonhardt of Seavy Studios in New Castle is our professional photographer. He provides us with our se- nior proofs, group photos, team photos and some sports can- dids. Without his help, there would be no Crest. This publication is printed on eight pound enamel pa- per. The silk screen cover was designed by Nancy Tumpak. Her design was chosen in a school-wide cover contest. Sarah Stevens refined her idea and executed the artwork on the cover. Two types of print “Cheltenham” and “Brush” were used in our copy. The Crest is sold for $17 a copy. This amount accounts for approximately $11,000 of our $15,000 budget. The other $4,000 comes solely from advertising. We are deeply indebted to the area businesses who so willingly promote and help fund our yearly effort. Please be sure to refer to the ad section when making purchases and patronize these fine businesses whenever possible.
