Les C. U. Smile M. D’Urso 3 So it’s come, the end of summer. And it’s time to move along — The great big party’s over. And it’s time to say so-long. You say you'll come and see me. Though you know I know you won’t. But it doesn’t really matter. Though I’ll never give up hope. And now. to you. my friend I bid much Love. Shalom, and Goodbye You say to always remember you Lord knows how hard I’ll try. Peace and Happiness D. J. M. 9 MY DESTINY Drifting into the wind . . . Entering my solo flight Gliding toward the sunset Too far to perceive Far beyond their sight . . . For I am off on my maiden voyage. However, artless I am not Showing skill of the elder I whom the latter Should have taught. I am free and on my own now My dreams I strive to keep For eternity I will live them While they who be strangers Their sorrows they do reap Life is like a poem with each Stanza written down in a book of memories. If I were not myself Who would I be? The philosophically oriented teacher Asked of me. I answered: Why? What’s wrong with me? Are my legs too long? My hair too short? I’m not too good on the tennis court. Are my ears too small? My feet too big? I have been known to renege. Am I too smart? Or am I too dull? My voice does sound a little like a dying gull. Is my behavior too good? Or is it too bad? I’m not always up on the latest fad. Why wouldn’t I be me? What’s wrong with me I’d like to know. With all my faults that always show I’d still stay me. Who else would be me? Who else would I be? Even though my skills are void And the teacher thinks I’m paranoid. Karen Baxter Hidden. A Plain Brown Bird Passed through my Sight It flew from my nearness I Glimpse in its outstretched Wings, yellow, white, pale red And the softness of feathers. Karen Baxter That stern look commands respect, and yet surprise arises with one of his rare smiles, usually resulting from the mishap of a student or two. Through his long hours of hard work, the public has seen such theatrical works as Mr. Barry’s Etchings.” M.A.S.H.” and ”1776 and All That on the Reynolds High School Stage. Along with his very unique qualities, this Slippery Rock graduate, in his own way. has contributed much to the atmosphere of RHS. Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand. Nore I half turn to go. yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann’d. Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for awhile And if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had. Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad. —Christina G. Gym Team Jumps Into It! I wonder if I can make this one! It’s a bird, it's a plane, no, it's Tim Moore! A new religion? Well, here goes. Romeo. Romeo! 167 Pretzel posture! Hawaiian Paradise •‘ISLAND” On May 21. 1976. couples attending the Prom found that the Junior Class, under the direction of general chairman Dick Blosz and class advisors Mrs. Hoffman. Mr. Gary Jones, and Mrs. McEwen had transformed the gymnasium into a Hawaiian Paradise. The girls, dressed in their beautiful new prom dresses, along with their handsome, tuxedoed escorts were welcomed with leis as they stepped through the brilliant Hawaiian sunset. Immediately they were swept up in the gay. yet romantic, Hawaiian atmosphere. Couples’ eyes were instantly drawn to the smouldering volcano in the center of the floor. Glancing around, they saw the bandstand, decorated with tall palm trees, brilliantly-colored parrots and fish nets in the background, where the musical group ISLAND played. Laughter rang throughout the room as the light-hearted dancers moved across the floor. Their eyes noted the murals adorning both ends of the gym. One mural depicted a peaceful Hawaiian sunset and the silhouettes of a couple that reflected on the water. The other mural, where hula dancers performed in the soft moonlight, was complemented by fluorescent pastels. The couples danced by various other decorations, their eyes darting from one to another—the palm trees in the sand overlooking the sea where photographs were taken, the multi-colored flowers climbing the white trellis of the visitors’ cage and the bamboo hut where couples were served refreshments. The tables, where the tired dancers briefly rested, were delicately colored with pastel table cloths, flowers and baskets of mints to add just the right touch to one of the most memorable Proms at Reynolds High School. 170 The Thespian Club Presents . . . So you’re the tennis net strangler. That’s my girl. Bill! Then there’s the one about my husband. Fang. Run that by me one more time. There’s always room for jello. Gee. I don't understand Nancy today. 172 Odds And Ends Open House - A New Approach The Gong Show Vo-Tech - Making Dreams Into Reality 176 Rochelle Hagans Diane Yingling Our Pride Mr. Tokar is this year's outstanding teacher, and he exemplifies this title in everything he does. As a guidance counselor. Mr. Tokar is always around to help students who need class changes or just someone to listen to a problem. He goes out of his way to help students and takes a sincere interest in everyone. In fact, Mr. Tokar is sometimes so busy helping others that finding him with a free moment is difficult. This year (along with his other duties) he is also helping to set up a Career Research Room at Reynolds. Mr. Tokar is an outstanding person as well as an out- standing teacher. He is a very sincere, patient, and un- derstanding person. He takes an active part as advisor to Student Council and Conservation Club and in many other functions around the school. In reality. Mr. Tokar helps and affects every student at Reynolds in some way. He richly deserves the title of Outstanding Teacher. One of many phone calls for conferences. The winner on the Gong Show is Karen McGarvey. president of YEA. presents Mr. Tokar with the Outstanding Teacher award. b ADVERTISING AMERICAN HAIR DESIGNS Hickory Plaza, 981-3680 ANDERSON CONSTRUCTION, INC.
