CREST 1975 Volume XV 2 SPORTS ADVERTISING UNDERCLASSMEN 109 ACTIVITIES 183 135 The Homecoming weekend began October 11 at a pep assembly when Debbie Loomis was announced 1974 Homecoming Queen. Debbie chose Rick Kim- my as her escort and Laddie Ohl as her doorman. Debbie’s court consisted of seniors Michelle Staf- ford, who selected Mark Hayes as her escort and Paul Meyer as her doorman, and Becky Keeley, who elected Brian Hills to be her escort and Casey Mc- Millen as her doorman. Representing the junior class, Danette Gibbs chose Myron Bright as her es- cort and Bob Ryhal as her doorman. Sophomore Kim McMillen picked Terry McGhee as her escort and Mark D'Urso to be her doorman. The queen and her court reigned over the annual Homecoming game in which the Raiders decimated the Kennedy Chris- tian Golden Eagles with a score of 51-0. An ebul- lient crowd later attended the Homecoming Dance in honor of the queen and her court. Due to the dedication of the Student Council members in charge of this year's Homecoming, the lovely court and queen, and the football team's success, the 1974 Homecoming will long be remem- bered as one of the finest celebrations in the history of Reynolds High School. 6 unless you love someone, nothing else makes any sense —e.e. cummings 'VSo1- —I'll set my sails to a new horizon 13 Every Day, In One Way Or Another, A Person Communicates His Feelings To All Around Him—Whether Those Are Feelings Of Frustration . . . Every morning that I get up, I'm very happy that, re- gardless of whether it's raining or snowing, I'm alive. Each day is a new adventure. This philosophy of life is reflected in every aspect of Mr. Joseph Magargee's life. Whether in his teaching or square dancing, hunting or boating, Joe radiates happiness to all those around him. Mr. Magargee has served as yearbook advisor and sophomore class advisor during his many years of teach- ing at Reynolds. For being a great teacher, advisor, and most of all, a friend, the 1974-1975 Crest staff proudly dedicates this book to Joe Magargee. STORIES OF AMERICA On January 23, 1975, the Reynolds High School Thespian Troupe 1631 began our Bicentennial Cele- bration with their presentation of Stephen Vincent Benet's Stories of America. The performance wasn't a play in the usual sense, but it was what is best de- scribed as narrative theatre. Jacob and the In- dians and A Tooth for Paul Revere were the com- position of Part One, The Frontier and the Revolution. Players for Part One were Mary Ferguson, Maria Les- kovac, Trewlawney Youngblood, Ed Bittikofer, Steve Defibaugh, and Dennis Miller. Myths and Legends was the theme of Part Two that was enforced by O'Hal- loran's Luck and Johnny Pye and the Fool Killer. Nancy Artherholt, Michelle Stafford, Mary Ann Spen- cer, Martin Flinn, David Colgan, and Gerald Smith were the players. Rod Benton, Business Manager; Cathy Weaver, Musical Coordinator and Director; Barb Hawkins, Student Director. 70 THE PLAYERS Gen. Hamilton Hammond Martin Flinn Pvt. Boone Dennis Miller Lt. In his years of coaching, he has given the Raiders a total of eight undefeated seasons. He has turned out a total of three state wres- tling champions. In 1967 Jim Gollner took State at 145 pounds. In 1972 Chuck Coryea took State atheavy- weight. In 1974 David Anthony took State at 132 pounds. Also, in 1974 Brian Holzshu, under the direc- tion of Mr. Lineman, took third place at State at 126 pounds. In the course of the years that Mr. Lineman has been coach, the Raiders have battled it out with the Greenville Trojans. The travelling trophy, be- tween Greenville and Reynolds, was won by our Raiders who could not have done it if it were not for Mr. Line- man. Thank you, Coach Lineman, for your years of service. The main purpose of the Youth Education Association is to enable the student to leam more about the teaching pro- fession, its opportunities, responsibilities, problems, and its importance to our world. Guest speakers are often invited to the club meetings to expand on these ideas. The organization also has supported a student tutoring program, under the initiative of Mr. Tokar, in which members go into the various classrooms to assist both the teacher and the student with math, language arts, and social studies. In support of American Education Week, the club sponsors a teachers' breakfast each year, and the members also choose the Outstanding Teacher. Activities during the year include serving as guides for school's open house and sponsoring the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance, The Y.E.A. is an experience- providing organization which offers a variety of opportunities to any student who considers education interesting, either as a career or simply as subject deserving interest. 140 SEATED: Trelawney Youngblood, Becky Hazen, Karen McGarvey, Kathy Cooper, Carrie Fulmer, Chris Ross. Perhaps the only way to label a club successful is to examine its purpose, and then watch to see if that pur- pose is fulfilled. And a club called Conservation can really have only one meaning in mind--the conserving of America, Reynolds included. Look around. One year ago in April, they joined the ranks of Earth Week ers, with a poster contest for elementary and junior high kids. Last June, members attended the Pennsylvania Junior Conservation Camp held at Penn State. This spring they fund-raised themselves to the Ivan McKeever Environ- mental Center, and as always, highlighted the area support of Earth Week. The Art Service Club spreads art, not only in this school, but in the community as well. Their projects have included a hand-puppet show in February, which also featured marionettes. A show of all the arts1', including modern dance, architectural drawing, photography, sewing, singing, theatre, the literary world, the science world, metal works, and of all things, art work was presented. And to encourage art growth among the members—a field trip to see professional art. ROW Is Donna Campbell, Cheryl Greene, Dana Ericksen, Tina Savada, Cindy Foor, Barb Hawkins. Newspapers and fans in general don't men- tion the atliete who doesn't score a touchdown, who isn't the highest rebounder, or who doesn't pin his man in thirty-two seconds. But as a sol- ution to this, all lettermen, the superstars as well as the hard-workine but average athlete may join the Varsity R Club. CLUB The Audio-Visual Club is integral to the wel- fare of the school. STAGE CREW Often what stage scenery you do see at an assembly or a play is due, for the most part, to the dedicated efforts of the Reynolds High Stage Crew. Be it a single chair—center stage—or an entire background of flats, the crew were there, keeping the stage in good work- ing order. M A J O R E T T E KNEELING TO STANDING POSITION: Cathy Weaver, Pam Mohney, Pat Thomas, Bev Foust, Mrs. Perry. Many of you may have seen these girls marching in local parades during the summer or performing at pep assemblies and at football or basketball half-time shows. However, many people don't realize that for the one six- minute half-time show they enjoyed, these girls had to spend several tiring hours practicing their routines in order to have a good show. It's hard-working girls like the ma- jorettes who help make Reynolds the number one school in football and basketball entertainment.
