Several of the students participated in music and athletics. then we finished our first 1 N Jo found that some of the students did not seem to like the atomic energy in the form of study and we only had sixty-one students left. We all got together on S eptember 5, 1945 to start the second lap of our flight and we found that only fifty-two students were assembled. We chose Vaughn Boruff, Delmar Seitz, Eelen Mueller, and Mary Eloise Weiss as leaders and Mrs. Swisher to direct us along the airway of education. During this part of our journey we took time out to have a HGot Acguaintedn party for the freshman on September 28. Xe stoppel :', Q the school for a treasure hunt November 2,iand we 5 l.,. FO stopped at the Fort Theater in Rock Island and found out how to get nGertie's Gartern on January 18. As the year before many of the boys participated in athletics and several of them made' the second team in basket ball. Also several of the boys and girls participated in the band and Boy's and Girl's chorus to brighten up our flight. We are all looking forward to our Junior year which we hope the airway of to contact in our atomic flight along education. 33 fa if '50 I , 3 N2 -gfgys, -se asgie' . 5 I . +L Zu ----' Q: . 2 ' ' 2 if Q f Q z A , gg, 'mf N . 2,53 X 2' Q' f AQ Q ' ,W- f :Il AA '- :IE ,., 32 , A' Sq v 35 I' 3.4 .xi A, was ,f if ,. gig :,, I F f' f . The following week the Sophorores held a party for us. We played games and had a lfnch. We thank them for a wonderful time. In October we had a hayrack party. We had two racks and we went to the Reynolds Boy Scout Ca.e for a Wei ur roast. We had a grand time, In September we played in a baseball tournament with the other classes. We lost every game, Beginning the third six weeks, the boys who wished, went out for basketball practice. Mr. Bridgfefd was the coach until Mr, Thoman came. FRESHMEN Ccont 'dj When the first six weeks grade-as came out the Fr'eshr::an ever-egre was second. This made us feel good and gave us a eg of ence- ..'-agennent. A 5 MUSIC At the start of the second semester music classes were organise? on a regular academic basis. A music theory class which dcafg with the fundamentals of music, harmony and history of music, was incorporated into the curriculum. A boy's and girl's chorus was organized. The students were given instruction.on how to sing and from entre branched off to part singing. The nucleus of a band has been started--some twenty instruments. Due to an instrument shortage, many students who are interested havetheen unable to pur- chase horns but the situation is expected to clear up by fall. Due to the newness of the musical organization very few programs were given. One assembly appearance and music for commencement was furnished by the music department. A Christmas musical was formulated and presented under Lbe stude.1 direction. As the students advance 'in musical hnowlalae they will expect to fur- nish several programs during the year and by the next publication of the year book, the music department hopes to have quite a number of music appearances to i their credit.
