In April of '59 an operetta, UMiss Cherryblossom,H was given by the high school. Ione Ketzle had a chara- cter part in this production, and Maureen Brown, Betty Curtis, Marion Danielson, Helen Dunlap, Ina Fas Roe, and Alma Wood had chorus parts. Eugene Sproston carr- ied a chorus part also. Those girls who represented the class in declama- tion work we re Dorothy Bull, Betty Curtis Cwho was se- lected for the Mercer County Contest! Desyl Schmidt Cwho appeared in the Rock Island Countyl Alma Wood. The sophomores produced excellent Typing I stan- dards during that year, and some of our typing was on exhibition as programs. Those who distinguished them- selves as a students for the year were Laureen Brown, Alice Liphardt, and Ina Fae Roe. when the end of the year arrived, the class look- ed forward to a third journey and looked back with sat- isfaction on the old one. Junior History H38-59N In the fall of 1958 forty Rocketeers appeared in- cluding four new adventurers--Arlene Gorham, Cecelia Hayden, Walter Wilkens, and Genevieve McConnel. On board were two new railroad executives--Miss Ella Mae Pierce for English and music and Miss Louise Remley for homemaking. To direct our journey we elected the following conductors: Wilbur Winegard, Walter Wilkens, and Alice Liphardt. Soon after the locomotive was started, the pas- sengers began to look for extra-curricular activities to take up their spare time. Those who took time out to enter sports were: Bob Dings, Freeman Elliott, Charles Johnson, Bill Lyons, Bill Mack, Don Phillips, Eugene Sproston, Donald Westpfahl and Wilbur Winegard In order to cheer them on to victory, Helen Dunlap an Doris Hofer acted as cheerleaders. A Our Junior class railway play, WDol1ars to Dough- nutsn, now dominated the scene. Ten members of the crew were chosen to act while the remainder helped to make it a success through other duties.
