“Sophomore History U57-SSH When the conductor called HAll aboardlu thirty- six sophomore travelers went aboard the sophomore Rocket for a ride of the '57. Because they were no longer inexperienced travelers, they looked forward to a profitable and eventful trip. Three new adventure seekers, Alice Marston, Martha McGinnis and Bill Lyons secured tickets for the journey. New conductors were elected--William Mack, John Patterson, and Keith Neaman. The sophomores watched with interest the progress that was made on the addition to the depot CR.C.H.S.J and the main conductor of our class took part in the first bricks laid for the building. The sophomore class missed Keith Neaman after he passed away during the month of January. Some boys side-tracked with a new course, physi- cal education. All the boys played baseball and soft- ball in the fall. Freeman Elliott, William Mack, John Patterson, Lawrence Potter, Eugene Sproston, and Don- ald Westpfahl were on the basketball team. This team won twenty victories and lost six during that year. Eugene Sproston entered the boys music class. The Rocket passengers who took girls music were Mildred Anderson, Maureen Brown, Dorothy Bull, Betty Curtis, Larene Curtis, Marian Danielson, Helen Dunlap, Anna Hassett, Wilma Gorhan, Doris Hofer, Ione letzle, Alice Liphardt, Gladys Miller, Mildred Miller, Bernice Mueller, Ina Fae Roe, Desyl Schmidt, and Alma Wood. The girls chorus were transported to a sub- dis- trict contest at Genesee and received superior rating. This allowed them to travel on to the district con- test at De Kalb where they again received a superior rating. Then at the state contest the chorus received a third division rating. Those sophomore girls in the selected chorus were Maureen Brown, Dorothy Bull, Betty Curtis, Larene Curtis, Marian Danielson, Helen Dunlap, lone Ketzle, Ina Fae Roe, and Alma Wood. Two of the sophomore girls, lone Ketzle and Marian Danielson, to- gether with a senior, Mary McMullen, mfde up the trio which entered in the sub-district and district contests held at Genesee and De Kalb respectively. lone Ketzle was the high soprano solist who entered in the sub- district contest at Genesee.
