We all remember observing our first delivery with amazement and holding our breath until that first delightful cry. When we moved to the nursery, we began to say, Won't they ever shut up! There was also the Premature Nursery with babies so small we wondered if they could cry. We became very attached to these tiny creatures, that is when we learned they really wouldn't break. Fi- nally came the hall and the happy mothers with the familiar routine of blood pressures and heat lamps. Ah, life! Are you sure this bottle will fit in his mouth? EMERGENCY ROOM-A MINUTE SEEMS AN HOUR his 'Emergency' covers just about everything from a cut finger to a cardiac arrest. Knowledge, speed and ability in a number of areas is a must for a nurse in the Emergency Room. Knowing what to do and how to do it requires constant learning. The necessary equipment of an ER will not do any good unless you know how to use it and know that it is working properly. Regular checks of the O2 equipment and other machines are vital for this department. A place for everything and everything in its place applies here. Hope that Ambu does the job! 46 I- U' 'S 'An' ,, Q,5Yt VS . 1 My 'ii-'Y INTENSIVE CARE UNIT . . . And intensive patient care is exactly what one gets here. This specialty unit is designed to care for those patients who need constant obser- vation. The physical setup and the small patient load allows for this special kind of attention. Frequent check on vital signs and sharp powers of observation are all part of this individualized care. All varieties of patients are placed in this unit and receive specialized nursing care to meet their own individual needs. These can in- clude everything, even getting the best shave ever. Here you learn something new everyday. Some things you can't learn from books, but only from special instruction. C Af I ..,,,,., . . ..,,, I ...-IM... The student hostesses provide some relief for the housemothers at the desk. They take over at meals and when one of the housemothers is off. We say Thank you to our Housemothers. 67 413 RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE The Recruitment Committee was established to inform perspective nursing students of the curriculum available at Rex Hospital School of Nursing. Each year Rex invites various high schools throughout the state to attend their Recruitment Day. The Recruitment Committee organizes the program given for the students concerning academics as well as social activities of the school. Students volun- teer to participate in the program, which consists of skits, informative speeches, a tour of the hospital, and a question- answer period. 68 NURSE'S NOTES The Nurses Notes are compiled by two students elected by the student body. The Nurses Notes tell the students of happenings throughout the school and of the social life at Rex. Linda Dean and Georgia Hill, Co-editors, kept late hours, so that they could put out a humorous and informative newspaper. It is published two or three times a year or as often as possible.
