fax' IIS' a csfuofanf Qfursef The task placed upon a student nurse Makes her wonder how she will face each day: But as the days pass and the time draws nearer to that long awaited goal, She then realizes that she as a student is . . . One who recognizes herself as an individual and strives to recognize those in het care as individuals with individual needs. One who fulfills not just everyday common needs, but needs of special impor- tance related to her patient. Any need that she fulfills brings her maybe just a simple thank-you, a smile, a nod, or just a squeeze of the hand. Lack of apprecia- tion? No, these gestures reach the student's heart and she knows that that special need she fulfilled was worth every effort, minute, and hour. t One who guides her nursing care by sound principles. Hearing principles until they're running out of her ears, she takes them to heart and applies them in the patient situation. One who gives of herself with the purpose of receiving satisfaction in knowing she did her best. One who is careful, knowing that life depends on her accuracy, realizing tnere are times to be jovial and times to be sincere and concerned. Concerned about her educational experience and increasing her knowledge of the patient, she studies only to find she needs to study more. f One who prepares herself to be not only a nurse but a teacher, a mother, a consoler, and a leader. O who learns to say the right thing at the right time and when to be silent and listeniwitlfi deepest sincerity. j Don't misuncfgrstand, nursing students make, mistakes but they learn from their mistakes. They dgJn't always have the perfect solution at a particular time but they seek help and instruction.
