A Night nf Cllnmrhg The evening of February 17 1954 was a most eventful one in our big brick hlgh school The Dramatic Club under the supervision of Mr Robert Janvrln presented A Night of Comedy This was a series of three one act comedies all based on a domestic theme The three plays were supposd to take place in three different locales across the nation but all had the family living theme behmd them A completely student run production this show was extremely successful The audience was enthralled from the first notes of the overture to the final curtain, and happy laughter rang from all corners of the auditorium Backstage one would have found an eliiclent but nervous group of people hard at work There is a great deal involved in the producing of a show which the average person would never lmagme The stage make up is dlllicult and time consuming and it takes four or five people to apply It The staging too is hard work and those msyterious bumps and whispered sounds which one hears coming from behmd the curtain are caused by the boys in their furniture moving endeavors The props the lights the curtains, and the costumes are merely some of the responsibilties encountered when a play 1S put on The actors are filled wlth a nervous excitement as they speak their lines with all the ability at their command Their reward IS the applause of an audience well pleased There is excitement too after a play IS ended and the personnel who worked so hard to put it on are filled with Joy of a Job well done All of this serves to explain why so many people live by the motto Theres no business like show business ' It really is a wonderful experience The Dramatic Club's Night of Comedy was another very shiny link in their long chain of successes. y
