IUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL Reseda's junior varsity casaba team, behind the fine playing of Dave Reddie, Richard Cox, and Cameron Pedego, finished in the number two position be- hind the league leading Wolves. One of the most thrilling games to be played in many a year saw the Wolves come from behind with 35 sec- onds left in the game and beat Reseda 52-51, in a real heartbreaker for the, Regents. B BASKETBALL Charged by the scoring of Steve King and Dennis Paterson, combined with Larry Popejoy's defensive work, Coach Waymon Shofstall's B basketball team finished the 1958 season in second place While sporting an impressive lU-4 record. At their first meeting, North Holly- wood handed them their first defeat. Vowing revenge in the second round of play, Reseda sharpened their defen- ses and old shooting eye to wallop the battle-stricken Huskies, 53-48. Hats off to a fine Regent team that fought with true Reseda spirit! Spirit and courage prevailed C BASKETBALL: Row 1: Kinsella, Adams, Blumfield, Robinson, Rob- inson, lwai. Herman's time was a scorching l4.4X That same day he won the broad jump, pole vault, and ran on the wQnning octet. VARSITY TRACK Coaches jack Boyd and Ed Leahy fielded one of the greatest track and field teams ever to grace the Valley League annals. For the second year in a row, the team walked off with the championship trophy. At every meet the powerful Reseda team crushed all opposition. ln the Valley League Finals the team was led by all-around athlete Paul Herman, who had league 'ibests in the high hurdles Cl4.4l, the broad jump C23'4 l, and the pole vault Cl3'l. Gutty Gary Comer, who won the century in l0.l, broke his Valley League 440 record for the third year in a row when he toured the one-lapper in 48.8. Distance star Lewis Barnett gave the spectators quite a thrill when he pushed team- mate Ted Eggleston to a l:50.5 880 and another record for the powerful Begents. Hurdler Mike Black cap- tured the lows in a sizzling 19.5. Elsewhere, shot-putter Hal Bedsole upped the school standard to 53'l01f2 . Galloping Bill Wachter, along with broad jumping 22'l0 and high jumping 6'l1f4 , developed into our top 220 man and took a blue ribbon in that event in every meet. The mile relay team posted a best of 3:00X2. Other standouts on the team were l0th grade great Dave Bailey, a l4.9 and 20.1 hurdler, George Tawes, a sub 4:40.0 miler, 509 quarter miler Marty Grossman, and Barrie Hanson and Dave Howard, sprinters.
