lerry Labeaune and Marty Fouchey reach high for a valuable rebound against the Huskies. VARSITY BASKETBALL The Varsity Basketball team, under the leadership of Coach Lee, finished the season in a tie for third place with Canoga Park. ln the first league game the Regent five were turned back by a formidable San Fernando squad, 66 to 49. The next game, against Poly, ended with Reseda on top, 50 to 27. lt took a last-quarter drive by the North Hollywood Huskies to pull out a 65 to 52 win over our hoopsters. The Regents coasted to a 48 to Sl win against Valley League new- comer Monroe, and lost a heartbreaker to the Van Nuys Wolves, 62 to 53. The Varsity brought happiness to Regent- ville when they won their game with the cross-town rivals, Birmingham, by a score of 5l to 46. Canoga fell prey to the Regents, 45 to 40, to end the first round of play. The first game of the second round with San Fernando found the Regents on the short end of a 48 to 44 score. The Regents again beat Poly, 49 to 44, but North Hollywood again put damp- ers on Regent hopes when they toppled the local five, 67 to 38. Hapless Monroe was drubbed again to the tune of 59 to 30, The Regents lost to Van Nuys, 70 to 56, but not before some fine effort was shown by our team. Many Regent tears were shed when the team lost to Birm- ingham, 32 to 29, but the season ended victoriously for the Regents as they beat Canoga Park, 5l to 43. ructice and p1'ecision proved vital VARSITY BASKETBALL: Row 1: Starr, I. IUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL Reseda's junior varsity casaba team, behind the fine playing of Dave Reddie, Richard Cox, and Cameron Pedego, finished in the number two position be- hind the league leading Wolves. One of the most thrilling games to be played in many a year saw the Wolves come from behind with 35 sec- onds left in the game and beat Reseda 52-51, in a real heartbreaker for the, Regents. B BASKETBALL Charged by the scoring of Steve King and Dennis Paterson, combined with Larry Popejoy's defensive work, Coach Waymon Shofstall's B basketball team finished the 1958 season in second place While sporting an impressive lU-4 record. At their first meeting, North Holly- wood handed them their first defeat. Vowing revenge in the second round of play, Reseda sharpened their defen- ses and old shooting eye to wallop the battle-stricken Huskies, 53-48. Hats off to a fine Regent team that fought with true Reseda spirit! Spirit and courage prevailed C BASKETBALL: Row 1: Kinsella, Adams, Blumfield, Robinson, Rob- inson, lwai. C BASKETBALL Losing three of their first five games, the Regent midgets bounced right back and cap- tured all of the remaining nine games to end up in second place. Sharpshooters Charles Blumfield and iay Robinson, whiz kid Kent iwai, and ace re- bounder Dave Monypeny led the team to many an exciting game that spelled victory for Re- seda,
