Layout Editor In the far distant realms of space there existed a ball of burning gases. As these gases burned, they emitted a form of energy known as light. Speeding swifter than thought the light pierced through the enveloping blackness continuing on for what seems an eternity. Far distant from the sun spun the planet earth. The earth was a curious mixture of ani- mate and inanimate. Among the animate was man. Animated man seemed to be extremely versatile for he could sing, he could cry, he could laugh, and then he could be silent. Yet all of these were only crude expressions of the spirit of man. For when he was happy he would laugh. Conversely sorrow brought tears. Yet perhaps the greatest quality man exhibited was concern for other men. Concern that existed to the extent that man would use the animate and the inanimate of his surroundings to bring relief to the distressed. One day a nurse bent over to bring relief to a fellow man whom disease had encompassed. As she was bending the rays of light that had been traveling so far came in through the window and struck the nurse and her patient. The light was forced to turn from its original path and go around them. As a result immediately behind the two there was an absence of light. For as long as they and the light existed there also existed a shadow of light. For a space of time they were a shadow of light. , ,,,Q,, f cwf ,f , WW? zrrr , f ,WL avid Ax ..1,,4g U77 fZsX fNF l ' 2 X --...zsly , . 'fffflf ff WW Administration . Faculty . . Doctor's . . As the day approaches when classes and clinical instruction are ending, a look into the future offers an overwhelming array of opportunities. Like looking into a crystal ball, she sees her future as a shining light. She will soon lose the title of Student Nursei' and gain the title of Registered Nurse. She will also gain a new sense of respon- sibility as she learns to work as a team member, or perhaps a team leader, a doc- tor's nurse, a school nurseg or whatever she desires. This decision may appear as a shadow in her future as she tries to decide which of the many challenging fields to enter. But hopefully, her many months of education and practical experience will carry her into the future, and her shadows of doubt will diminish. UNIORS As a window has the unique property of allowing visualization of things outside itself and things inside itself, so these Junior class officers are at that unique point in their aca- demic careers when they too can look inward to their past experiences as Freshmen and can look outward to their new experiences as Seniors. Of course, the present is immedi- ately important. The present brought the Juniors their first contacts with patients. Contacts that every Junior sincerely hoped brought light into the oftimes shadowy lives of their patients. So now that their past experiences as Freshmen are mere shadows compared to the reality of their Junior experiences, we will leave them looking forward to their Senior year. 1 1 ilu' ,f O f if I ,Q I of JANIE ALEXANDER Kansas City, Missouri X JAN BALLANTYNE RICHARD BATES Kansas City, Missouri Kansas City, Missouri KATHY BECKER Raytown, Missouri 5 1 . However, the shadow our first year casts reaches far into the coming two years of edu- cation to light our way. It gives us the basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body, even if the body we study isn't human and rather furry. As these Freshmen class officers stand here, their shadows reflect off the ice in the same way the basic courses taken at the University of Mis- souri will reflect on their future studies in nursing. So inevitably our Freshmen experiences will have their shadows to cast into the future. ,l wi. if W FRESHMEN CLASS OFFICERS AND ADVISOR, left to right Miss Nancy Sloan.
