u S nu lllb e cr The year l94l-l942 began a new epoch in Industrial Arts in the Scipio-Republic Schools Just after the holidays the department was able to move into its new headquarters, Every- one is and can be justly proud of our new Industrial nrts and Farm Shop building. It is one of the largest and nicest of its hind in the state. and laboratory activity. Uoodworkinp is predominate department. Plain turning and knurl- ing on the wetal lathe has proved quite popular. A visit to the department would soon reveal that hot metal work in the forge and on the anvil is not a lost art. Oxy-acetylene welding and cutting is probably one of the most commonly used activities in our department. Other metal work includes solderin5,drawin5, grindind, shapiny, sheet Letal, threading, pipe cutting, etc. L six week unit in mechanical and arch- itectral drawing proves very beneficial. The group sinps in four parts: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. The Mixed Chorus is not as active as the other musical organisations. However, they have taken part in a number of programs in the school. From this 5roup was chosen a special ensemble to sing at the Chorus Festival. The Mixed Chorus presented two numbers for the annual local Farmers'lnstitute namely, nThe Noon is Upn and nFinlandian by Sibelius. , . , . V l Some of our repertoire we do unaccompanied. Although we have not mastered a cdpella singing, we have gone a long way. We hope in the near future Republic can have a Capella rcbed choir of nhich it can be proud,

Republic, Old Fort, and Thompson, competed in the One Act Play Contest at Old Fort on March 5, l942. Thompson took first pl.ce and then went on to win the county contest,which was held on March lO, l942, at Attica High School.hepublic's play was entitled Hhinter Sunsetn and was written by Robert Brome. It was directed by Er. H. D. Fee. The cast consisted of ' n Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews............Joyce lretsinger Bill AndreUs........... ...Orville Patterson, Jr. jinitaosmcaocoaa-naman' aonnufoueo.LuCile Dr. Iichaelson..... ................Robert Chaney , The play is a drama about a sickly old l dy, whose only means of living is destroyed by fire. She then planned to live with her son,Bill,who is a prominent physician.LhenBill come to take his mother home with him, he brings along his wife. his mother is greatly shocked to hear that he-is nar- ried, and she received an even greater shock when she learn- ed that Bill's wife would not allow her to live with them. She then makes an excuse that a friend of hers wants her to come to Florida to live with her, so she will not have to go with them. Bill, with his wife, leaves with a guilty con- science, and his broken hearted mother dies, at the end the play, from a heart attack.
