Q6 .Ab , 7 ln A, A J, The Scipio-Republic Chapter of the Future Farmers of Am- erica, an organization of boys enrolled in Vocational Agricul- ture,entered its fifth year with 17 members.On October 7,seven HGreen Handsn were initiated, making 24 members. The officers for the year of l94l-1942 are as follows: President Carl Hall Vice-President Vincent George Secretary Arthur Hall Treasurer Leonard Powell Reporter Eldon Powell Watch Dog Charles Enders Advisor L. C. Jones Last June judging teams were ent to Columbus to compete in the State Judging Contests. The teams were composed of as follows: Dairy Cattle: Carl Hall, Vincent George, and Arlin Ueiker. General Livestock: Carl Hall, Arlin Ueiher,and Leon- ard Powell. Sheep: Vincent George. At the judging contests, Carl hall was elected to the State Farmer Degree. Our chapter presented the Arbor Day program last spring. As a community service, the F, F. A. owned and operated a community sprayer which was extensively used. We put on about 4,000 gallons of spray both on potatoes and orchards. The fair exhibit which we nude this year received firsta the State Fair in the Thrift division, We also displayed this booth at the county and at the Attica fairs. On December 28, l94l,we held our first chapter meeting in the new chapter room. This year the parlimentary procedure team went to townihpm the start. It was compsed of the reyular officers and Arlin Weiher and Charles Hunker. We won over Davis-Brim Chapter in the district,who received second in the state contest before. Then we were qualified to go to the state contest held in Col- umbus on March 2l, 1942. We have also entered the chapter contest this year which began September, l94l, and ends September l, l942. One of the outstanding events of the program of work for last year was the chapter trip. One morning in the last part of June, l8 of the F. F. A. members, some of which had gradu- ated last year, met at Mr. Jones' home to start for Kentucky. Hr, Charles Cook was the bus driver,and Mr. Jones, the advisor was relief driver. Going south we stopped at Columbus, and we went up in the A.I.U. Tower to View the city. Going on ufrom Columbus, we headed for Mammoth Cave. Le camped nearzafill- ing station the first night and by a country schoolhousethe .J- second night. We arrived at Hommoth Cave on noon and went through the modern part of the here we stopped at Lincoln and Foster's hone We were gone three days and everyone enjoyed the seond after- cave.Then leaving on the way home. the trip. 9

On November 7, the Nroup presented the all-Jirl operetta,UBeauty Contost.H All worked hard to make this a big success. The annual county Choral Festival was hold at Ielmore on December 5rd.The following girls represented Republic at this festival: Dorothy Zapp, Donna Snavely, Horne Roope, Catherine Meiger, Joyce Denier, Zoe HodQes, Iary Eraley,hosalee Cooley, Dorothy Bare, Vie Ann Straub, Lucile Bishop, Iary Hoope, Emma Lake,har5aret InH,Freda Kenner, and Joyce Kretsinger,i girl's ensemble presented a special nunber,HLift Thine Eyesu by Men- delssohn. ' The girls' glee club presented numbers for the Christmas program and also for the Farmers' Institute. 4 sextette composed of Doris Hesse, Norma Roope, Vie Ann Straub, Imma Lake, Loe Hodges, and Catherine beiker sang a number of times during the year, The annual County Vocal and Instrumental Solo-Ensemble Festival was held at Hopewell-Loudon .,'. Donald Shawberry and Robert Chaney presented a special shit, Hbam and Tildy's Courtship.n Hly Grandfathers Clockn and HDe Canptown Racesn were sunq by the glee club.
