visa' ilk X ,, xx Englzsh English is a very important part of each student s curriculum Four years of English are required of students in the academic course while three years of English are required of students in all other courses English consists of themes oral work grammar and literature In the twelfth and eleventh grades themes oral work and literature are strongly emphasized In the above picture Ben Kirker is gaining skill in public speaking Train- ing in effective public speaking is an essential part of training for leadership in any field In the ninth and tenth grades grammar and literature are taught Grammar is simply a set of principles to be followed by people who speak the same lan- guage Grammar is as much a science as is chemistry or physics We need to learn it thoroughly so that we can write and talk intelligently with educated people Miss Leaf teaches English seven English nine ten and twelve are taught by Mr. Carne and English eleven by Mr. Brady. ,K 5 I 0 V 6 S ll

Home Economzcs The objective of M.rs Pa1omak1 s home economics department is to tram the high school girl for her future home hfe It COIBISLS of sewing cookmg and a course on marriage and personal adjustment In the above prcture the ninth grade class is settrng the table in preparation for the luncheon they are servrng As the menu on the blackboard rndrcates they are serving salmon salad potato chips cocoa and ice cream sundaes In the seventh grade class the students have a prehmrnary course in plan basic class rn sewrng and good groomrng The curriculum of the tenth grade home economics class includes a semester in preparmg elegant dinners The second semester consists of a more advanced sewing class The advanced home economics class rs composed of Junrors and Seniors This class dunng the first semester has a course in adapting their person alrtres to surt their present and future 11ves During the second semester a more detailed and complicated course rn sewing is taught The thoroughness of our home economics department indeed provides the student with the essentrals of home life ning and cooking breakfasts.
