Aff? pf S t .r '-F? gs.. ff. S X DEDICATION Each year the problem of finding s suitable and worthy individual to whom the annual may be dedicated looms before the senior class. This year, however, no problem arose because a man who has shown patience and understanding of high school students and their antics for many years was right before their eyes. Since this is the case, the senior class of '5hF takes pleasure in dedicating this, the fourth Raider, to their class sponsor and school principal, Hr. G. H. Gillespie. Page sponsored by G. L. Wednesday noons will always be in the memories of the senior class oi' Bla , In the beginning, it was undecided whether they should have an annual: but the class put their whole heart into it and proved that they could have one. The annual staff would like to thank Hr. Wlttmer and Hr. Gillespie who helped them in so many ways: the Halt: Studio, who took the group pictures: and all those who sponsored the pages of the annual. It is hoped that you will find much enjoyment in this annual in the years to come. 'ras cuss or 1951+ Page sponsored by Jerry Roseberry, STANDARD OIL TANK WAGON SERVICE, Renwlokjlowa W. H. MEDIEVAL Now this is a very dry subject, but you must bear with us and get all of the time elements in mind. We will begin with Medieval history. Back in the dark ages of 1935 and 1936 sixteen sweet little children were being born to fourteen proud sets of parents. RENAISSANCE Along about the dawn of the Renaissance the Bunka, Swans, Hauglands, Hip- pens, Latches, Helmkes, Siemens, Pogges, and Kurfmans decided to send their little angels to school to learn to read and write. This was the year l9hl and all of them got along famously. By the second year of attendance Don DeHots joined the group and stayed throughout the ages. Page sponsored by RALPH WHITE, Renwick, Iowa PEOPLES CAFE, Renwick, Iowa Many great battles were fought throughout these formative years. In the fifth grade Jan took Clair down and sat on him. This is one encounter that will make history forever. A great scholar entered history along in the sixth grade to march to the head of the class and become valedictorian. This could be none other than Ton Roseberry, better known as Mouse. EXPLORITORI AGE As the age of exploration dawned this civilisation of Sly, graduates found themselves preparing for high school by attending junior high. Two sets of twins--Doris and Dean, then finally Donald and Dorothy joined the camp to push forward into high school. Athletics held an important position throughout this period--the girls won the runner-up trophy in the junior high tournaments both years. VICTORIAN AG The last link of this golden era of personalities was filled by the pre- sence of Roberta Kleveland as the Victorian Age came into existance and high school was finally realised. High school gave these pioneers the opportunity to participate ln music, athletics, journalism and to attend high school dances. As this age was drawing to a close the girls made real history by playing in the state tournament in Dee Moines. ATOMIC AGE The Atomic Age found the nine little lambs who started school together, Joined by seven others, to go onto graduation together. They have all enjoyed their school days and sincerely wish that they had a few more golden years left together: but time marches on and it is hoped that in the years to come the will each take their place in the history annals of the world. The banquet was held in the dining room which had been decorate to resemble Paris. The east wall was 'covered with a drawing of the Eiffel 'lower which was the center of interest. The north wall was decorated to represent sidewalk cafes and the south wall was a display of French art. The ceiling was covered with blue cheese cloth, which was dotted with silver stars. The bandshell, aade of crepe paper, stood against the west wall, and portrayed 'Paris the City of Huslc.' After the banquet the juniors, seniors, faculty, and guests danced to the music of Verne Shaef1'er's orchestra. Shirley Alosson, .Tan Helnke, Glen Martin, Bill lippen. l!enw1ck's school has a large number of students interested in both in- strumental and vocal music, a total of 65 participated in the music program for the school year 1953-19514. A concert band of 14.5 members enjoyed playing together under the direc- tion of Hr. W. K. Baessler and emerged with a division I rating from the state contest. The nrching band performed at the home football games and lorth Iowa Band Festival, stepping off to snappy marches and novelty num- bers led by the drum najorette, Dorothy Harris. At the basketball gales the quarters and half-times were llvened by the marches the pep band offered. Several small ensembles were an outgrowth of this outstanding organization, they also made a fine showing at the contests. The hand and various smll ensenbles played at the Christmas program, a mid-winter concert, a joint concert with Vernon, and a pre-contest concert. Vocal music had a mixed chorus, girls glee club, and boys glee club as its nucleus, with a girls trio and sextet as branches. The particlpantes in these organisations enjoyed working with Hrs. Whitney and gave a Christ- Xl concert, spring concert, and a pre-contest concert. Pig! IPOIIIOPOC by PORT DQWE-TOBII BUSINESS COLLEGE, Fort Dodge, Iowa J llama 1 .P Jonrnali Ill Club The Journalism Club was started in 19h9 with the English literature class as its staff. This class sent articles into the Renwick 23225 and soon had a section called the gl Life. The following fall, since interest in journalistic writing was running rather high, a journalism club was organized. This club included all high school students who wished to participate. This first club had Ed Harris as editor for the gl Llgg. In 1950 the Journalism members decided they should have a paper particu- larly for the student body so they could tell their jokes and gossip. This paper took the name ggggg. The first editor of the gaggg was Charles Espe. This year the club chose Janice Helmke as the editor of the gl Life with Nancy Latch as assistant editor. Karen McGowan was elected editor for the Radar with Roberta Kleveland as assistant editor. There are now thirty-one members in this club. From left to right, first row- Garry Kraft, Paul Yarbrough, Nancy Latch, Janice Helmke, Roberta Kleveland, Karen McGowan, Rachel Mandsager, Betty Olson, and Patsy Haaland. Second row- Alvin Thompson, Mary Hall, Sandra Helmick, Carolyn Kurfmsn, Marilyn Sadler, Bernard Nelson, and Mr. W. K. Baessler. Third row- Marvin Pearson, Billy Nelson, Joyce Kraft, Sandra Zentner, Beverly Nelson, Judy Kraft, and Duane Pogge. Fourth row-Ethel Rasmussen, Jean Ann Kiley, Alice Bunk, Marilyn Nissen, Jack Rasmussen, Billy Hippen, Donald Prilipp, Larry Kraft, and Donald DeMots. Page sponsored by M. B. RICHARDSON, HARDWARE, Renwick, Iowa This year the junior and senior girls started a Future Ho e- makers of America Club. The club met the first Wednesday of every month during the last period of the day. The meetings began with roll call. The roll call was followed by a business discussion which included talking about projects. Next was the program which was followed by lunch and games. The girls feel that membership in this group has been very useful, because someday they will be- long to clubs and they won't be afraid to do their part. The F. H. A. has had three projects during the past year. Everyone brought in two gifts and wrapped them for the children at the Ch1ldren's Home in Waverly. A large variety of gifts were brought in. These were put into a big box and shipped to Waverly. On December 19, 1953, the club girls held a Christmas Formal Dance. This dance was considered one of the big events of the year by the club members. The next project that the club decided upon was a Food Fair. This was held March 12, l95M- The fair was a big success and the proceeds went toward the purchase of a food freezer for the Homemaking Department. Page sponsored by F. H. A. CLUB, Renwick High School If a person were to go down to the kitchen they would find our three cooks. From left to right they are Mrs.Bott1eson, Mrs. Kleve, and Mrs. Block. In the fall 19h1 Mrs. Block helped organize our lunch ro am Soon after, Mrs Kleve came P SP f - and in 19hh Mrs. Bottleson joined the cooks. About 230 students eat these nourishing noon meals. The largest number of students fed at a single meal this year was 25h. Much equipment has been added to make a modern kitchen and soon there will be enough Hemolite dishes,1ndiv1dual plates and steel ware for everyone. Miss Engstrom, our very efficient school secretary, has become a very necessary person around the school. One is likely to find her doing almost any task, but the major- ity of the time a person can find her in the office busily typ1ng,tak1ng telephone calls, and doing the many other jobs so important to a smooth run- ning institution. Ver Each day an average of 232 students ride to and from school on the bus. Five buses have been provided to haul the students. The drivers are walt Attig,Kenneth Harris, Guy Ballord, Charles Hinkley, and Henry Klassie. Pbrsons We are very thankful to have Mr.Harr1s, whose job it is to go around cleaning up after us stu- dents. Mr. Harris has been custodian of Renwick School for three years. If you need something like a broom, ham er and nails the first place to go is to the boiler room to find Mr. Harris. In the winter we students would come to a cold school if Mr. Harris wasn't here early in the morning to warm it up for us.
