National Honor Society Inducts New Members Character, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service are the goals of the National Honor Society. Each inducted member strives to maintain these qualities. The National Honor Society participated in two ac- tivities during this past year. The induction ceremonies of the National Honor Society was held on March 11,1974. There were six new members inducted. Sophomores-Kyle Prodoehl and Carol Siet- sema; Juniors-Tim Berger and Dave Henneberry; Seniors-Carol Lenz and Darlene Abbas. The officers for “73-74” were Larry Abbas-President; Ken Haug-Vice-President; Judy Peterson-Secretary. Renville Hosts Germany's Petra Hauenschild TOP LEFT: Petie leads a cheer at the girl’s Basketball game. TOP RIGHT: Petie talks on the phone. BOT- TOM RIGHT: Petie and Cathie do dishes. Petra Hauenschild came to Renville on August 19. She lived with the Frank Wahl family. Cathie and Ellen have been good sisters to Petra. They got along like regular sisters. At first, she thought our small town would be hard to live in because of its size, but when she got to know everyone in school and around town she liked it a lot. Petra was known to everyone as Petie. Her outgoing personality charmed her many friends. Petie was enjoyed by the seniors in her class and they tried to show her a good time. During the year Petie participated in girls’ basketball, the senior class play, one act play, band, chorus, girls’ glee, FTA, FHA, student council, and was secretary of the German Club. She attended the First Lutheran Church and was a member of the Renville Aces 4-H Club.

Supervising the homecoming festivities was the highlighted project of the Senior High Student Council Preparations were made for the coronation, Queen’s Tea, and Parade along with all the details of ordering flowers, cleaning the robe, and decorating the gym in the traditional red and white colors for the dance. Problems arose in connection with the student lounge, now in it’s second year. The council began viewing it’s delapitated furniture, broken jukebox, and unreliable candy machine with dread. With the help of the treasury and a lot of work, the members somewhat improved these conditions. YFU committments were made, and the council sold tickets and promoted the last PTA Parent Appreciation Banquet. The final service done was sponsoring the school picnic, held at Sibley. President Tom Eekhoff presided over the monthly meetings. Rosemary Sietsema kept minutes; Dave Henneberry served as Treasurer; and Cathy Schmidt assumed the duties of Vice President.
