THE 1959 RENVILLON PUBLISHED BY THE SENIOR CLASS OF RENVILLE PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL RENVILLE, MINNESOTA FOREWORD As you chart life’s course, you will encounter numerous excursions you will wish to relive. There are countless foot- steps you would like to retrace. Your days spent at R. H. S. will always be among your most cherished memories. Through the pages of this 1958-59 Renvillon, we have tried to capture moments you will want to remember. It is our desire that as you set sail from this cove, an open sea of memories may be yours. 2 CONTENTS: I ADMINISTRATION II SENIORS III CLASSES IV ORGANIZATIONS V SPORTS VI FEATURES • • • WE DEDICATE We, the members of the 1959 graduating class, proudly dedicate our annual to Mr. Harold Pluimer. During 1955-1957, the students of Renville High School were privileged to have Mr. Pluimer serve as their principal. He proved himself a friend to all. giving encouragement and praise to those with whom he came in contact. After serving as principal in Renville, he became one of the ten traveling science teachers in the United States. This position was given by the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies, and was co-sponsored by the Atomic Energy Commission and The National Science Foundation. During the summer of 1958 he lectured at the Brussels World Fair. After this experience he accepted the position of science consultant for the State Department of Education in Minnesota. We were very sorry to see him leave, but we all join in wishing him well in his new position. 4 ADMINISTRATION Roger Amundson, Superintendent, seems very pleasant as he begins the day's routine. Burge Hammond, High School Principal, and Susan Zaske, Grade School Principal, are busy scheduling the parent-teacher conferences. ADMINISTRATION BOARD OF EDUCATION Leo Derksen, Treasurer, Del Rhodes, Cyrus Knutson, Vincent Larkin, Directors; Arthur Binger, Clerk; and Deane Watson, Chairman, are busy planning projects for the coming year. miring the new bulletin board display. Mrs. Lola Graham and Miss Marion Fai- man, fifth grade teachers, look over one of the new science books before the 8:30 bell. First grade teachers, Mrs. Mary Foster and Miss Shirley Schmidt take time out from daily routines to pose for a picture. Mrs. Jean Prior and Mrs. Rosena Thomp- son, third grade teachers, are admiring the r.?w bulletin board display. Waiting for the afternoon session to be- gin, Mrs. Lillian Knutson and Mrs. Lyla Williams, fourth grade teachers, glance through the Weekly Reader. 7 Mrs. Anitra Loe, kindergarten teacher, and Miss Vemice Schimming, special teacher, are looking into one of the cupboards in the kindergarten room. Mrs. Donna Reek and Miss Jean Dotseth, sixth grade teachers, are looking at a new chart that is being used for their health classes. Miss Rosemary Connelly, grade school music teacher, and James Merkel, high school chorus and band director, are looking for some new musical arrangements. Between classes Jarvis Anderson, agri- culture teacher, and Arthur Prior, industrial arts teacher, inspect some of the student projects. Basketball coach Richard Robinson poses with Miss Praxedes Raquiza. The two phy. ed teachers are looking at Chief Runny Nose. Our custodians are Cornell Aalderks, Dick Dybsand and Clare Symes. Our secretaries are Mrs. Joyce Bakker and Mrs. Loretta Krueger. OUR LOYAL HELPERS Our bus drivers are Roland Brettin, Gerald Thostenson, Victor Schneiderman, Christ Schneiderman, Jake Schoek, Jack Strefelder, Duke Deuth and Roger Peterson. Our cooks are Mrs. Joseph Sorenson, Mrs. Meta Sether, Mrs. Dorthy Kuicken and Mrs. Wesley Crafenstein. Mr. James Lysne, math and sci- ence teacher, along with Mr. Eu- gene Bendix, science teacher, study a specimen of the human body. Mr. Curtiss Johnson, who teaches history, Latin, and English, and Mrs. Mary Johnson, who teaches social, history, and English, seem to be brushing up on a little Latin. Miss Ann Olson, Business teacher, Mrs. Dorothy Klotz, Librarian, and Mrs. Lu- cille Doone, Home Ec. teacher, exa- mine the new Stenorette. Jerry Aalderks Ardus Ahrenholz Sharen Bailey Bruce Bottge I didn't sleep a wink last night, but I'll make up for it in English. It's nice to be natural when you're naturally nice. Her pleasant attitude toward life is expressed in her wonderful soprano voice. Maybe I'll awake some morning and find myself famous. Deanne Decknatel A regular girl, just loads of fun; whose smiles are a delight to everyone. SENIORS OF ’59 Karen Decknatel To know her you just have to hear her laugh. Marcella De Groot Laugh and I'll laugh with you; study and you'll study alone. Marvin Dikken I get into my little blue Pontiac and wonder-- whether it will go. Rebecca Enestvedt Ready for anything you might ask; be it fun or be it a task. Margaret Fuller Jerry Groen James Grund Shirley Hanson A friendly smile and a helping hand are worth more than a fortune. I'm not afraid of work. I could lie right down beside it and go to sleep. He knows that a football field isn't the only place one needs a line. To be efficient in a quick way is her ambition throughout the day. Thomas Henning Education is great, but 1 don't let it interfere with my sleep. Gene Jacobs Class periods should be ten minutes long, five to come and five to go. Patricia Lien Better to be little and shine than big and cast a shadow. Gertrude Modderman Like gravity--she has the power of attraction. Ivan Muetzel If school is liberty; give me death. Efficient and courteous. A girl on whom one can re ly. I never could decide which is harder, the seats or the assignments. Judith Ranney A real girl through and through; A wonderful pal that's always true blue. Fond of living, lots of fun, life for her has just begun. Why take life seriously; you'll never get out of it alive, anyway. Noreen Raske This maiden's heart is like the moon--there's a man in it. Carol Reetz Neat and patient--her future pupils will enjoy doing as she bids. Kenneth Santjer 1 never put off tomorrow what I can possibly do the day after. Cisela Scheel She came late, but we're glad she's here. Kenneth Sorenson Gary Tschudy Gerald Tufto John Waller He studies, otherwise he's quite normal. A rare combination of wisdom and wit; half- wisdom . . . half-wit. Getting along best with women, is knowing least how to get along without them. I want to be bashful, but the girls don't let me. SENIORS OF ’59 Marilyn Westby I'll try anything once and twice if I can get a- way with it. Constance White A girl with a smile is a girl worth while. Howard White Teachers think I am so sweet, they always want me in the front seat. Earl Wohlman I was a boy scout until I was 16, then I became a girl scout. Janice Zaske Her happy disposition, her pleasant smile; have won her friends for many a mile.
