Sent CKotlte ScAool CKUcltc. J?ttH4tC44 L The main section of our building housed our dreams, our struggles, and our successes up through the spring of '56. Beginning in the fall of '56, how- ever, the additions on the north and south with a remodeled main section gave us an enlarged area with in- creased facilities for work and rec- reation. Many are the impressions of our classmates, teaches, and other school personnel securely silhouetted in our minds. As you turn the pages of this book, may you again recall many happy memories of '56 and '57. Among the new facilities are the lockers shown here in the hall- way of the grade section. The new kindergarten room lias enabled us to have a full year of school instead of only a six week’s term in the spring. etnocteCecC TR hhh4 Chemistry and physics are so much more interesting since we have this new lab. It is located in what used to be the music and band room. Preparing meals is now a joy instead of a chore in our newly re- modeled cafeteria kitchen. DecUcatc t To all the people of this school district, who, through understanding, concern, determin- ation, and generosity, have made it possible for us students to enjoy and utilize the finest educational facilities, we, the Class of '57, dedicate this annual. In the second game the Renville gridders again were overpowered 40-0, this time by highly-favored Danube. Although Renville crossed Brownton's goal line three times, they were forced to settle for a 0-0 tie, due to penalties. Sparked by a 95 yard kick-off return and a second half comeback, the Red and White won their first victory, dropping Sacred Heart. The 19-13 score spoiled the Viking’s homecoming. The Indians' chances to spoil another homecoming were shattered when a highly spirited Hector eleven overwhelmed them by a lopsided 33-6. Renville’s homecoming pitted a much improved and determined squad against one of the better teams of the 212 Conference, Buffalo Lake. However, the local gridders were unable to score as the Lakers cashed in on a pass interception and a safety, winning 8-0. Again the Indians played a tight defensive game and held their own against a larger and more power- ful Stewart team, but came out on the short end 13-0. In the final game of the season, Renville played host to Bird Island in a real thriller. With the Red and White leading 14-13 in die final three minutes, the Panthers returned a kick-off 42 yards to top the Indians 20-14. The Renville team ended up with a 1-1-5 record, tied with Brownton for sixth place in the 212 Con- 33 ierence. ”j4 S z46et 6CC Syucut ROW ONE: James Dolan, Stuart Dunwell, John Waller, James Fredrickson. Jerald Ter Eick, president meets with school board mem- bers, Kenneth Sorenson, John Waller, Duane Johnson, Wynn Binger and Donald Haen to choose the superintendent and princ ipal. Student Government Day was held during National Education Week, on Tuesday, November 13. This year was different in many respects than last year. All grades from kindergarten through grade 12, instead of just the high school, had student teachers for part or all of the day; the student body e- lected a school board, who chose the superintendent and principal. Students from grades 10-12, who were interested in teaching, wrote letters of applications to the board. The board then hired the teachers on the basis of the letters of applications and personal interviews. After going through sixty letters and interviewing many candidates, the hoard tackled the job of con- structing a schedule. On Monday, the student teachers observed the classes they were to teach the following day--some even burned the midnight oil preparing for the big task. Tuesday came and went with much enthusiasm and zest. It was an experience most students won't forget. It made many realize the responsibilities of teaching, and it also gave many the inspiration to consider entering into the field of teaching. ■10 ‘Dedicate Mr. Vincent Larkin and Mrs. Dale Haen hold up the American flag presented in memory of Leon- ard Haen, a former student of the Renville school who died on Oki- nawa during World War II. Dedication of Renville's new additions and remodeled section, on Wednesday, November 28, marked the com- pletion of a $550,000 building program. A throng of visitors toured the school during an open house in the late afternoon and evening. To highlight the dedication, a brief, action-packed ceremony was held in the gym at eight o'clock. Vincent Larkin, school board president, made the dedication at the close of remakrs in which he traced the work which many had done to accomplish the build- ing program. He told the audience, It is a great honor to present to you people this fine, new school for the use of the district. R. H. Amundson, superintendent, commended the residents for willingly assuming their responsibility in providing facilities of a high standard. Mrs. Dale Haen, on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, presented a flag for use in the gym. Then a squad of Girl Scouts escorted the colors into the gym while the band played the national anthem. R. H. Amundson, superintendent, lays mortar for the cornerstone of the new building addition. Within the cornerstone, he placed a box contain- ing a 1956 annual, a copy of the Renville Star- Farmer, and a list of all employees of the school. 41 fluHCOX @1 44 “PtcUf ROW ONE: Donna Dolan, Arlene Abbas, Myrtle Sand- berg, Sharon Steinkamp, Connie Kashmark, Ellen Nelson, Mary C. On November 15 and 16, the juniors presented a mys- tery comedy in three acts, The Night of January 16th. The subject of the play was a murder trial, and the unusual feature of it was the selecting of twelve members of the audience to serve as the jury. No definite conclusion was reached as to whether the defendant was guilty or not guilty — the verdicts of the two juries differed. Jumpin' Jupiter, a three-act comedy, was given in May under the direction of Mrs. Cavett. The plot concerned three girls trying to crash Broadway, but somehow got themselves involved in a kidnapping case.
