'poot ziC 7eeutt boasts three all-conference players Coach Bob Baar blew his whistle on opening day practice and found eight returning lettermen plus a host of untried material. But Mr. Baar was clearly in the driver’s seat and whipped the boys quickly into shape and found he had the makings of a good team. The Indians went into the first game as underdogs a- gainst Buffalo Lake, but it seemed Buffalo Lake didn’t know how strong an underdog could be and they were snowed under 46-7. Next the Indians battled a good Danube team and lost a heartbreaking 14-12 thriller in the last forty seconds of play. Browntonfell to a hepped up, Homecoming minded Indian squad 47-6. Then the boys journeyed to their cousins from Sacred Heart and pushed them off the field, 67-6. After a close first half at Stewart the boys began to play football and bombed them 26-0. Then illness struck, and the game with Hector had to be cancelled. With some of the boys still recovering they went up against Bird Is- land the next week and lost out 19-6. All the boys can still remember watching Mac run in the backfield for those extra points, Boone intercept passes, and Olie and Groetsch back the line. There were thrills galore and everyone had a great time! These six seniors will be lost through graduation; Roger Groetsch, Allan Olson, Bill Lorette, and Daniel Schafer, backs; Lyle Habben and Leon Binger, ends. Roger Groetsch, Donald McClurg, and Gerry O'Connor were placed on the All-Conference team with Allan Olson receiving Honorable Mention. Robert Baar, Eugene Bendix and Robert Green- slit beam with happiness over winning the Dis- trict basketball trophy. Agre. ROW TWO: Chuck Huselid, Kenneth Treloar, ettviCCe win district 12 basketball trophy With Robert Greenslit as coach, the basketball squad had an unusually successful season. The fin- ished runner up in the 212 Conference and were the first team from Renville since 1926 to win the Dis- trict. In the season’s record of 15 wins and 5 losses, two of the defeats came in Regional Tournament play at the hands of a great Granite Falls team and Lamber- ton. In District Tournament play the Indians avenged their conference 5-and 3-point losses to Danube and Buffalo Lake by knocking them out of the running with an excellent brand of ball. They then went on to clinch the District by defeating Bird Island. Although four seniors, guards Allan Olson, Roger Groetsch, Kenny Daugherty, and forward Lyle Habben have played their last basketball game for RHS, next year’s team should again be very strong.
