Officers for the Junior G.A.A. were: Wilma Schneider, Pres- ident; Gertrude Peters, Vice-President and Recorder; Yvonne DeGree, Secretary; Dolores Johnson, Treasurer. During the year, the Senior .A.A. had folk dancing as a project, and sponsored a mixed dance. The Junior G.A.A. had picnics and played basketball. As a combined group, the G.A.A. played basketball, tennis, and softball. A point system, in which each member may accumulate points through her junior and senior high school years, was established. For one hundred points a girl has the right to buy a G.A.A. pin, providing at least twenty- five girls have earned them. Seven hundred and fifty points are required to get an emblem, and one thousand points are required to get a letter. One point per hour is given for archery, shuffle board, and ping-pong. Two points per hour are given for hikes, biking, kittenball, basketball, volleyball, speedball, soccer, tennis, bad- minton, swimming, tumbling, roller skating, ice skating, tobogganing, folk dancing, and skiing. Three points per hour are given for horseback riding and golf. Two points per line are given for bowling, and twenty-five points are given for attending nine out of ten meetings. The following girls had earned over one hundred points by the first of the year: Dolores Johnson, Judy Fawcett, Yvonne DeGree, Marilyn Carlson, Erma Schneider, Janice Grabow, and Eva Joan Aldous. 16 Row Ono: Daniel Schaefer. Although a non-conference game, it gave a preview of the successful season which was to come. The following week the team started their conference schedule with another win over Buffalo Lake. Renville started shaky leaving the half-time score tied at 6-6, but three touchdowns in the last quarter made it a 30-12 victory. Next the boys had a simple one, defeating Bird Island 58-14. In this game the entire squad saw action. Their first loss of the season came the next game when the highly keyed Danube team defeated them 26-24. Renville was hampered by injuries throughout the game, yet at the half was holding the lead 12-6. The follow- ing week Hector trounced the Indians to the tune of 38-14. The team seemed to be suffering a moral letdown after the defeat by Danube. The next two games will long be remembered by the Renville boys, for besides winning both they probably played their best ball of the season. The first of these two games was the Homecoming game with a supposed- ly tough Sacred Heart team. But the boys took the situation well in hand and defeated Sacred 48-27. The next game was with Morton who were the co-champions of the Tomahawk League. The team was really up for this one and ended the game at the third quarter by a score of 49-0. The following earned letters in football: Black, Mandrich, F. Haen, Raske, T. Haen, Sietsema, Negen, Palm, Sorenson, Chan, and Maag. Of these Rollo Black made All Conference first team quarterback with J. Mand- rich and F. Haen on the second team. A TEAM Left to Right: Robert Sietsema. After a very successful football season, the basketball season opened with Mr. John Jungbluth as coach. The team had a sixteen-game schedule this year—winning four games and losing twelve. The climax of the season came when Renville participated in the sub-district tournament, eliminating Silver Lake 60-37 in the first round and being eliminated by Buffalo Lake 41-39 in the second round. The squad will lose eight of the first-team players this year: Robert Sietsema, Rollo Black, Francis Haen, John Mandrich, John Aalderks, Robert Hagen, Alvin Groen, and Eldon Daugherty. Works of Mozart. Beethoven and other master composers, and contemporary band compositions are included in the band’s repertoire. The band played for every home basketball game during the season and made several appearances in concert climaxed by the spring concert. The High School Chorus has also made several appearances during the year. Although hampered by a lack of males, the Chorus has enlarged its repertoire, especially in the Russian school of liturgical and other sacred compositions. The girls in the Chorus performed separately as a Girls' Glee Club, and presented several numbers for public programs. 21 THE GHOST PARADE was presented by the seniors in May. 1950.
