Japan is experiencing a dynamic scientific and industrial growth at the same time religious and cultural traditions flourish and the result is a nation of startling pungent and comical contrasts. ln the city's narrow shop-ridden streets clogged with merchants, cus- tomers and stray automobiles wound into mercurial streets bordered with trees and sidewalks.
