Wells is a native of Norman, Oklahoma, and before returning to active duty in 1961, Mr. Wells was teaching school in Chula Vista. He reported to the Renville from reserve status on 5 October 1961 while the ship was at Buckner Bay, Okinawa. He relieved Lt. Halsey as First Lieutenant and remained in that position until November 1962. The following month, upon return from the Caribbean Mr. Wells relieved LCDR Smith as head of the Operations Department. He lists his hobbies as sports, travel, paint- ing, and life in general. His wife and three sons presently reside in Chula Vista.

She willingly complied posthaste. On December 4th she was leading a convoy of LSD's through the Panama Canal. She stopped near Panama City for two days of liberty in this Central Ameri- can country.
