Rosita Robinson Leading Senior Council has been an unforgettable exper- ience. lt has taught me so much about myself and others. The go-get-'em attitude many displayed proved that we could harness and put to use the potentials that the class of '75 posseses. To begin the year, we sold pickles and raffled off a 10- speed bike. We also sponsored a dance. During Homecoming Week, I saw every class more spirit- ed than ever. The dance was a big success, most students being satisfied. One of the most important events of any year is Senior Ball, but the class of '75 made this year's the best ever. I'd like to thank the senior class for the opportunity of serving you as Senior Representative. lt's been a rewarding year for all. The happy memories and excitement of our senior year outweighed the few difficulties. I will leave R.H.S. with memories of an unforgettable year with the most promising group of peopleg the Senior Class of 19755 the very best alive!! Good luck, Seniors! To open this season they were asked to sing at two churches located in Renton: Saint Luke's and Saint Anthony's. The choir, under the direction of Richard Houser, through a great deal of devotion and hard work, acquired excellence in a rather short period of time. Extra workouts in the mornin were utilized prior to every performance. Their pergormances included the Fall concert, the Winter concert, Valentine's Da and the Spring Concert. A'Cappella also participatecl in a Solo Ensemble Contest,,Tri-High School Contest, and the N.P.S.L. Choral Contest. They were also selected as one of the several high schools to sing a series of Christ- mas songs to get the Boeing em loyees into the spirit. A committee was arranged to talie charge of the con- cession stands at this year's basketball games. The mem- bers of A'Cappella not only sang together but organized several fun activities. Love fills the world with melody, for music is the voice of love. Devo- tion and love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes difficult things to joy. Their performances were not only for the school, but for the entire community. They sang for the Kiwanis Club at the Sheraton Inn, Lions' Club, the State Farmers Insurance Convention, Lutheran Church, Renton Open House, the Secretaries' Banquet at the Sheraton Inn, and the Sea-First National Bank. Through believing and a desire to work together, the Choir developed quite a sense of fulfillment in them- selves by bringing melody and love to all. For music is the voice of love . , i LS.. . W1 in and Stage Crew This year's Drama Club got off to a good start with the play Pure as the Driven Snow. Their second play was the musical Camelot Both plays were very well performed. In the Spring they sponsored a Drama Festival which included performances from Lindbergh and Hazen, in addition to Renton's performances. Not only did Drama Club provide R.H.S. with entertainment from their club, but they also hosted W.W.S.C. performances of The Un- satisfactory Supper and The Proposal. Later, in '75, Drama Club went to W.W.S.C. to attend the Washington Association of Theater Artists Festival where they were able to see many different skits and plays from various schools. The performers should be commended for the many hours they spent rehearsing and pre- paring for the showings. It's evident that a lot of effort was given to make this year's plays the greatest ever. But the performers weren't the only ones working. Behind the scenes, stage crew was busy too. Special thanks should go to these people who were involved in make-up,costumes, scenery, design, and paint- ing sets. The mountains are wide When I left Sweden last August I wondered, a bit worried about how hard it would be to fit in among all the new people with their habits and customs that were different from my own. I also wondered how hard it would be to get friends. But I haven't had any problems of that kind. I can say that all the guys I have met here at R.H.S. and outside school have been great. I didn't think I was going to get that many wonderful friends. I would like to thank everyone, not only the students but also the teachers and the administration for being very helpful. Even though I haven't been an exellent student with good grades and all, this year has been the greatest and most fun experience of my life. I think that those people I have to thank most are my American family, the Skagens. They've helped me with everything. I think I can say without exag- geration that it would have been harder for me to get out among the people if I'd been staying with another family. I think it will be difficult to leave Renton in july because I don't know if I'll ever come back, but I do know that I will never forget all the memories and experiences from this year. I'll keep them safely in my heart. lag skall alltid minnas det. Tack Lars Sjogren, Sweden Rotary Spending a year in a foreign country is a most exciting and beautiful experi- ence to me. Being an exchange student one has the possibility to live among the people and to really get to know them. It is fun to share family life and to attend school with all the other students of my age. It is hard to compare life styles and customs. Naturally there are a lot of differences between the two countries. Enough to make a long, probably not too interesting list. In general I would say that both countries have their advantages and disadvantages. I enjoyed my stay here and I am happy to have had the chance to get to know some of you. It is something I will remember for a long time to come. Sabine Pflug, Germany Independant This school surprised me with it's fine spirit. I've noticed that all the students have something in common. I wonder if it's the R.H.S. feeling. The most en- joyable experience to me has been the A Capella choir. It's not just a choir, it's a group of good friends that work together for great goals. R.H.S. is a place for learning. You can take good courses. Teachers are very competent too. I've learned a lot about this country and it's people. But what is more I've got a bunch of real good friends. I wonder how difficult it will be to leave them. I want to thank you all for making it possible for me to enjoy R.H.S. this whole, great year. For me Renton will always be the best place in America. I wish I could leave something for you to remember me and my country. Mauri Kaipainen, Finland A.F.S. That it's time we're aware Dear R.H.S. Hej! Time sure does fly. I have been in Sweden 5 months now and in school 2 months. School!! It sure is different here than at Renton. First you don't pick classes, teachers and periods, instead you pick a line of study you want to be in. There are many different lines to choose from, you pick the one that will help you the most with whatever you plan to do after school. I am in one of the 2 year Theoritical lines, here they call it Sociala Cinje There are 30 students in my class, 28 girls and 2 boys. We stay together all the time except when we have electives or group hours. I like the group hours, that is when they divide the class in half and part go to one class and the others go to another class or else go home. We don't have lots of electives, one of them is either music or art, the other is between psychology, French, Ger- man, and Russian I think. My class schedule is different day to day like in college. It is nice except when we have double hours . That is when you have two hours of a class like Swedish, math, science, etc. My classes are both too easy and too hard. They are ahead of us in some classes and behind us in others. I really enjoy my classes. I have Swedish, English, Government, History, Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, Math, Psychology, Music, P.E., Typing, and office proceedures. There are a lot of other differences in school, too. We get to keep our books after school is done for the year. I sure am glad because mine are a mess. Every other word is translated to English. Lunch is also free. I think the reason everything in school is free is because everything else is expensive. Movies cost between 52.50 to 53.50 and discotheques and pizzerias cost from 53.50 to 56.00. But I have to admit, I love it all! It is all so different than in the states. A lot of things we take for granted or look down on is usually just the op- posite. Sweden has no dating system. Everybody just gets together somewhere like a disco, movie, pizzeria. Kids have a lot more freedom too. Parents don't really care where you go or when you come home because they know you'll make it home. Busses,Subway, and local trains run till 2 o'clock in the morning and if you miss that there are lots of taxis around all the time. Well I had better say bye because I have homework. Sweden does have more homework, I know that for sure. Hejda.! Love Maralee Gould Renton's Exchange student in Sweden It's a small world afterall caan mmm in Q Q is L Tsai F I . K 9 0 ,-,. Despite its small size, the Chieftain Staff has had a successful newspaper all year. The Chieftain was distributed only once a month this year because of lack of funds, yet the work and effort the staff put forth proved to be well worth it. All the articles were ex- tremely well written and the photography was excellent for a high school paper. The regular features such as Teacher Tribute, Super Spirit, Traveling Teepee, and Indians' Best held the students' interest. In addition there were great sport write ups. The school was also kept well informed on club activities. The Letters to the Editor was objective and allowed Renton students to voice their own opinions. Friends, This year's Renton High School Student Body will never be duplicated. In upholding the distinguished Renton tradition of excellence established by pre- vious classes, this year's student body added a signifi- cant flair of its own. Headed by an industrious group of seniors, the students demonstrated how unifica- tion through compromise can result in outstanding achievements. As is the case in all goal-oriented organizations, such as Renton High School, differences of opinion and conflicts among interest groups do occur. Al- though we did experience temporary setbacks, un- predictable misunderstandings and some tragic mo- ments, we always seemed to pull together and come out on top. Using mistakes as building blocks instead of stumbling stones , this year's student body was able to realize the true satisfactions of attaining one's goals. You, the students, made this year one of tremen- dous success. Only you could have done it. Sharon, Craig, and I are all very grateful for the support and understanding which you gave us throughout the entire year. In the first quarter Cascade returned a punt 45 yards to take the lead. The Indians countered with jeff Belmondo scoring from 7 yards out. lan Heaton booted the extra point and that made the difference in the game. Renton's outstanding defense lead by jeff Belmondo and Dave Little held the Bruin attack for the remainder of the game as the Indians left Everett victorious. The Indians ground out three touch- downs with their potent wishbone attack gaining almost 400 yards in total offense. Doug Wholman and Steve Heck combined for 200 yards rushing with 2 and 1 touch- downs respectively. Randy Wik coverted all the P.A.T.'S and that was all it took for Big Red to win. In the second half the Indians kept up the tough defense and held Kent Meridian to 50 yards on the ground. The Royals' only score came with only 35 sec- onds onthe clock. Big Reds' dynamite defense came to life in a great effort to hold the Raisens to only 6 yards in total of- fense. Mike Phillips and Mike Rich- ardson had fine defensive efforts. On offense the Indians had over 400 total yards as they rolled up34 points. They were as follows: Doug Wohl- man scored from 2 yards out, 3 yards out, and from 'I yard out. Steve Heck scored from 12 yards and jeff Bel- mondo ran one in on a 40 yard run. I I 87 Unity key to winning Big Red gets it together. Rob breaks free for six. Again plagued by penalties our Big Red Machine was handed a loss at the hands of the Eagles. The Indians got on the board first with a Randy Wik field goal from 25 yards out. The first half score was Renton 3-Lindbergh 0. Due to penalties the Indians had2 touchdowns called back. After a blocked punt the Eagles were given very good field position and were able to take it in. Lindbergh's second score came after Renton's fourth down try to come back from the two yard line. The Eagle's had an easy time get- ting in for their second score. 88 Big Red suffered its first loss of the season as they battled Kentridge, the defending state champs. The Chargers got on the board first, but the Indians struck back with Doug Wholman going 70 yards for our only touchdown. Randy Wik con- verted on the kick and that was the completion of the first quarter. Both of the teams traded punts. Then Kentridge struck again from 40 yards out and that was all it took to win the game. Renton bounced back after their loss to Kent- ridge as they defeated Glacier in a score of 14-8. The game was much different than the scorel showed, as Renton caused six Grizzlie fumbles. Rob Stoutenberg scored 4 times, but dueto penal- ties, only two of the four counted. Steve Heck, again lead the Indians in rushing with over 75 yards. A fine defensive effort was spearheaded by lody Catz, Kevin Magraw and Randy Noble. The only Glacier score came on a 65 yard drive with 35 of those yards coming from penalties. Indians await Glacier's move. Patricelli leaves defense behind. Renton finishes 7-2 on season Wik kick Belmondo twists for extra yardage. When Big Red invaded Highline Stadium the second time they fell the Totems. The Indians defense caused two early mistakes and the offense cashed in on them. Steve Heck scored from 3 yards out after the Tyee punter was sacked. On the next kickoff Renton caused a fumble and jeff Belmondo scored from 3 yards out. Our third score came on a fumble which was recovered by Rob Stoutenberg in the End Zone. Our fourth touchdown was scored by Doug Wohlman on a 3 yard sneak. Steve Heck picked up another fumble and ran it in from 12 yards out. Renton finished the regular season with their Homecoming victory over the Highline Pirates, scoring a season high of 47 points. Doing the scoring were Doug Wohlman and Steve Heck, each scoring twiceg with Craig Belmondo, Kevin Magraw and jim Kossert scoring one touchdown Renton throws defense-off. each. Renton's defense held the Pirates offense until the waking moments of the game, with Steve Sanders and lan Heaton having good games defensively. The Indians met Evergreen in the Divisional play offs. Again Renton played well defensively in holding the Wolverines to only 7 points. On the Renton side of the board Doug Wohlman and Steve Heck each had two touchdowns. Randy Wik kicked 3 of the extra points and one running con- version failed. The Belmondo brothers, leff and Craig, played excellent defensive games while Steve Sanders got his third interception of the year and Randy Noble came up with his first after he blocked a Evergreen pass. 89 orking together in unit 'ti gg 1 bl s its 'ti Wes Hikida Bob Hawks jim Knauss E Coach Savage Steve Bortz Alan Wing taking the lead ' ,..' This year Lettermens' Club sponsored numerous activities, such as The All-Star Winter Smoker - a boxing event which featured 10 bouts, Saturday morning elementary school basketball clinics - highlighted by an All-Star game at half-time of a varsity game, a S30 half-time hoop-shoot, an elementary school hoop-shoot, a winter dance, Faculty vs. All-Stars benefit basketball game, Senior Spikes vs. 1974-75 Girls' Volleyball team, along with a celebrity hoop-shoot during a pep assembly. The always-active Lettermens' Club, along with it's activities, was in charge of half-time activities at all home basketball games. This year's members ushered at all home events, most notably the 1974-75 Girls' State Volleyball tournament. Although membership into the Lettermens' Club was limited to male students who had earned a varsity letter, the activities received support by all students and community residents which helped to make this year a very successful one. The Lettergirls were active this year as line judges, scorekeepers, and timers for the state volleyball tournament held at Renton this year. They also held a Christmas Dinner and Halloween Party as well as participating in the Walk-A-Thon and camping trip. tttt g g. Advisor - Coach lim Heck. President, Doug Wohlman. They came back to their home court and swamped the Glacier Grizzles and the Kennedy Lancers 60-47, and 65-54. In the first Lindbergh-RENTON game, the Eagles were the victors winning 45-50. RENTON traveled to Kentridge for a tough battle in which we came out ahead, winning by a slim margin of 58-57. Top scorers for that game were Duane Warns and Doug Wohlman, 24-18. The next tough and exciting game came when the Hazen Highlanders invaded Indian territory. We won by one point, 48-47. The lead changed hands several times, but our lead outlasted the clock. Wh had fine playing by Dean Warns who threw in the winning basket with five seconds left. When we played Lindbergh for the second time, we were not only out for revenge, but also for the City Title. The Indians were on the warpath winning the Eagles by 9 points. During this season our head coach, Irv Leifer was put out of coaching for awhile with a stomach upset. But the fine coaching of Coach Wraith and Coach Belmondo pulled us through. We ended with 8-8 in League and 8-13 as the total wins and losses. RENTON placed fourth in NPSL League Division. The council was hard at work thinking of activities to keep the class of 77 on their toes. The sophomores had a bake sale, sponsored a P.T.A. dance, and also won the hall decorating contest during homecoming week. Sophomore council was selected on the basis of an application and were picked by Eric.
