MR. KARL 1. WEBER Principal Mrs. Warren HKEEP SIGHT OF THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE Congratulations to the Class of 1963 upon completion of twelve successful years of education. Success in todays life depends largely upon attitudes. Too often we are inclined to express what we are against without giving thought to what we are, and what we are for. It is our hope that somewhere in the years of education just completed you have had the opportunity and desire to establish your future goals and to determine what you stand for in life. Once you have established where you stand keep sight of the positive attitude which allows for the cooperative solution to many of lifels problems. KQYZA4' If SECRETARIES HALT CONFUSION Two women serve as vital links between chaos and calm in the Main Ofliee. 'They are the secretaries of our principals, Mrs. Wlar- ren and Mrs. Massuco. Their efficient management keeps things running as smoothly as a Swiss clock. Mrs. lVarren has been a staff member since 1940. She serves as registrar, and has charge of all records. Mrs. Massuco works closely with Mr. Talmage on SBA funds and extracurricular activities. Both of these able women deserve many thanks from the myriads they serve each day. Congratulations on a job well done! EXPERIENCES ENHANCE UNDERSTANDINGSH It is with pleasure that recognition is given for the publication of this splendid yearbook. Students, faculty and friends of the school are indebted to the annual staff and their adviser for this impressive book of memories. The fond remembranees relived through pictures will bring recollections, pleasant and otherwise, of the days spent at Renton High. These many experiences have served to improve talent, develop attitudes, broaden vi- sions and enhance understandings. May you profit from these school days and carry into your adult life the energy and precepts you exerted while a member of the student body. Mrs. Massuco MR. CHARLES TALMACE Vice-Principal

Arriving at school at about 7:30, Mr. Magden ascends the front steps to begin his busy day. One of the most well-liked and active teachers at Renton High is Dr. Ronald E. Magden, World Affairs and Russian- American Relations teacher. During his eight years of teaching here he has served as secretary and president of the Renton Education Association, as well as being a welcome addition to many REA committees. Mr. Magden was born at Mountain Home, Idaho, and attended the University of Idaho at Moscow. He was gradu- ated from that institution in three and one-half years, with a major in European history and the Renaissance, His first teaching job was at Orofino, where he discovered that his predecessor had been thrown out bodily by his stu- dents. It was at this time that Mr. Magden decided to be fair, fast, and quick-witted in teaching. In 1949 he received his degree and married his college sweetheart. He went on to the UW to work on his doctor- ate, but after a year was told that he was too young to receive the degree. In 1954 he accepted a position at Ren- ton High where he has taught since. He has continued working on his doctorate, which will undoubtedly be awarded him this June. He resides with his family in Bryn Mawr. Through the years at RHS he has distinguished himself as the golfer with the highest number of strokes, and the bowler with the lowest average among the faculty. Mr. Magden has developed a system of teaching which is based on knowing both the student and the subject matter, and has yet to meet a pupil who cannot andfor will not learn. Presently he is advising the newly formed Future Teachers of America group at Renton, and is interested in the mental retardation program in the Renton Schools. A DAY IN THE LIFE GF I L Mr. Magden is co-advisor of the Political Science Club, which often meets with local politicians. Here Avery Garrett, 47th District Representative, discusses an issue with Mr. Magden and club members Dan Moilanen and Jack Connell.
