He was awarded the fellowship in science upon graduation and spent the next three years in Germany, where he studied under Iiohlrausch, von Helmholtz and Iiirehotf, receiving the degree of Ph.D. from the Iinivcrsity of Berlin. Upon his return 1 H he was appointed Assistant. in Mathematics at the School of Mines of Colunihia IYI1IVCl'SiIY. In IS85 he was called to Trinity College, Hartford, Conn., as Professor of Physics, where he remained seventeen years. He is Consulting Engineer of numerous corporations, notably the General Railway Signal Co., the Hartford lilectric Light Co., the New York Shipbuilding Corporation, the General Electric Co., and the Troy Gas Co. During the Spanish war he was in charge of the installation of submarine inines in Long Island Sound. Ile is a lneinbcr of the Anierican Physical Society, the .Xinerican Institute of Electrical Engineers, and the New York Academy of Sciences. .J-3
