William Lispenard Robb, LED., Ph.D., Profeffor of Electrical Engineering and Phyftcf. Columbia ,805 CIJBK, TBILEE. Born at Saratoga Springs, N. Y., on May 9, 1861. He prepared for college at the Owego Academy and entered Columbia in 1876 and graduated in 1880. He was awarded the fellowship in science and spent the next three years in Germany, where he studied under Kohlrausch, von Helmholtz and Kircholf, taking the degree of Ph. D. from the University of Berlin. Upon his return he was ap- pointed Assistant in Mathematics at the School of Mines of Columbia University. In 1885 he was called to Trinity College, Hartford, Conn., as Professor of Physics, where he remained seventeen years. He is Consulting Engineer of numerous corporations, notably the Hartford Electric Light Co., the New York Shipbuilding Co., the General Electric Co., and the Troy Gas Co. During the Spanish war he was in charge of the installation of submarine mines in Long Island Sound.
